The Glacier 2 Game Engine, developed by IO Interactive, is a successor to the Glacier 1 Game Engine. Unlike its predecessor, which underwent multiple modifications to meet the standards and demands of various game releases, Glacier 2 was built from the ground up. With the production of 007:First Light, IO Interactive appears to be evolving and upgrading Glacier continuously (sometimes internally described as updated or next-generation Glacier tech) rather than branding a distinct “Glacier 3” product.
