The Armchair Historian, a popular YouTube creator known for animated breakdowns of major historical events, has announced that he will stop producing new videos at the end of this year.

His channel has built a large audience through video explainers covering wars, politics, and global history, often using stylized animation to simplify complex topics. He’s amassed over 2.5M subscribers on YouTube, and over 400,000,000 views.

The creator shared the update on December 4, saying he has no plans to release new content in 2026 and will not sell, delete, or unlist any existing uploads. He added that a full explanation is scheduled for January.

“I am halting production of all new videos at the end of this year. I do not have any plans to release new content in 2026. I will never sell my channel, nor will I delete or unlist videos,” he said in the post on X.

AHTV, his standalone subscription platform, will also be shutting down. Refunds will be issued to remaining annual members, and emails will be sent out this month.

Creator says the move is a personal decision

After the announcement gained traction, Armchair Historian posted a follow-up message clarifying that he is doing fine and has not faced demonetization issues. He called the change a personal decision and said he will discuss it in detail in a dedicated video sometime in January.

Fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts about the sudden decision, with many sad about the loss of new content.

“I’m very saddened to hear this,” one user said. “Wishing you all the best.”

Another commented: “Sad to see you go, but good luck to your new endeavors.”

“Sorry to hear. Wishing you and the team well,” replied a third.

The YouTuber launched his first video game, Master of Command, back in October 2025 to “very positive” reviews from fans.
