YouTube: Lewis HowesYouTube megastar Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson believes content creators have to be across all platforms these days, but that YouTube is the best for building a solid community.
Over the years, there have been plenty of debates about which platform is best to build a new community on for content creators. Some have completely downplayed finding success on YouTube these days, believing that there are too many big creators on there who have dominated over the years.
Instead, some creators have chosen to focus on the likes of TikTok and Instagram, feeding the short-form platforms with content that can be consumed really quickly. This has spawned a new wave of online stars.
MrBeast still advises creators to try and make YouTube their home, especially because of how dedicated communities have to be on there.
MrBeast believes creators should be on all platforms
“If you’re trying to reach as many people as possible, you should be on all of them because there is a certain fragmented audience on them. At the end of the day, if you’re trying to actually build a community or get it where a lot of people care about you, Youtube is 100% it,” he said at the 2025 Dealbook Summit.
“If you spend an hour flipping through TikTok, you’ll watch 200 TikToks and then if you quiz someone on what they saw, they can’t even remember.
“People with ridiculous views and millions of followers will do a meet and greet and can’t even get five people to show up because there is a big difference between someone consuming a five-second TikTok versus sitting down and watching a 20-minute YouTube video and getting to know you.”

Donaldson added that YouTube is still “infinitely more dominant” for those creators who want to “build a business” out of their success.
He did note, however, that there is a “subset of people” who will “only” use the shorter-form platforms, so they can’t be ignored by creators. “If you don’t make content on that platform, you essentially don’t exist in their world. So, it’s important that you’re on all of them,” he added.
