Player count
Black Ops 7 is now out in the wild, but just how many players are jumping into the new Call of Duty release? If Steam figures give us any indication, it’s the softest launch in years.
Black Ops 7 player count
SteamDBThe average number of Black Ops 7 players since release is around 90,000 on Steam. Since this is data solely from Steam, it does not factor in console, Battle.net, or PC players using Game Pass.
For comparison’s sake, on Steam alone, it marks the weakest launch of a new CoD game on the platform.
Peak player count
Black Ops 7 hit its peak player count of 100,332 concurrent players on Steam on November 16, 2025.
Again, it’s worth mentioning that these figures are from Steam alone. Given Black Ops 7 is available for no extra cost on Game Pass, a considerable number of PC players would be taking advantage, and then there are the hundreds of thousands on console at any given moment, too.
Looking at the picture on Steam alone, however, it indicates the softest reception since CoD arrived on Valve’s platform. Below is a comparison of peak concurrent player counts that the most recent CoD titles reached:
- Modern Warfare 2 (2022) – 491,670
- Modern Warfare 3 (2023) – 190,707
- Black Ops 6 (2024) – 306,460
- Black Ops 7 (2025) – 100,332
Why the low player count?
Black Ops 7 has launched into a particularly competitive shooter market, with Battlefield 6 (combined with BF RedSec) and ARC Raiders both keeping players occupied.
There is also criticism of using generative AI and frustrations around the campaign, and it has become the lowest-rated CoD in franchise history by the fans.
However, bear in mind that Steam is only a fraction of the players, and it’s the number one game on PlayStation.
Player count compared to competitors

Clearly, Black Ops 7 has quite a ways to go in order to go head-to-head with its biggest competitors in the space. Being the last to release certainly won’t have helped its odds, but with a live-service roadmap chock-full of content, future updates are sure to draw some amount of interest.
