DisneyMoviegoers in China are taking their dogs to see Zootopia 2, with cinemas hosting special pet-friendly screenings that have quickly gone viral across social media.
It’s not every day that you get to go to the cinema with your furry best friend, but that’s exactly what select cinemas in China are doing. Videos shared across Chinese social media show pups sitting beside their owners as they watch Zootopia 2.
While these screenings aren’t widespread, they’ve helped fuel the sequel’s hype and added a unique twist to its release.

The most viral videos show fans holding their pets up during the film, with phone flashlights raised like a concert crowd, while others show dogs sitting calmly in the theatre seats beside their owners, glued to the screen.
This is actually not the first time pets have joined their owners at such occasions, though.
Back in 2023, a major Chinese cinema chain (Wanda Cinema) ran dedicated “pet-screenings”, with local reports noting that owners had to provide paperwork for their dogs and that theatres carried out full cleaning and disinfection afterwards.
That same year, pet owners could go for a “doggy movie date” where they could take their dogs to watch the Chinese version of Hachiko, a loyal dog that waits for its owner long after their passing.
Zootopia launched in the United States on November 26 and quickly built momentum overseas, opening with $556 million worldwide, marking the fourth-biggest global debut of all time.
