Fallout Season 2 has recruited Macaulay Culkin in a surprising role as a member of Caesar’s Legion, and Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard told Dexerto how the series landed the Home Alone star for its sophomore season.

The series picks up shortly after the first season, with Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) trekking through the apocalyptic wasteland hunting for Lucy’s father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan). If that wasn’t enough, Howard is also determined to find his wife and daughter, who also apparently survived the nuclear bombs when they were dropped 200 years ago.

Obviously, most fans were excited that the first season ended by teasing the introduction of the titular city in the 2010 fan-favorite game, Fallout: New Vegas. The trailer confirmed that Fallout Season 2 would include some of the key factions from the game, including the New California Republic, Caesar’s Legion, and the Kings.

But when speaking to Dexerto ahead of Fallout Season 2, Todd Howard revealed how the show managed to cast Macaulay Culkin.

Macaulay Culkin joined Fallout Season 2 because he’s a fan

Howard remained tight-lipped about what to expect from Culkin’s role in Fallout Season 2, but he told Dexerto that the Home Alone star is a fan of the first season — and implied that Culkin reached out about potentially joining the franchise.

“I mean, look, he was a fan of the first show, and, a lot of people after the first season are reaching out who you don’t know were fans of it beforehand, or they love the show,” Howard explained. “Jonah, and Graham, and Geneva, the showrunners, have done a great job casting, and there’s some… Some surprises.”

The Fallout Season 2 trailer confirmed that Culkin will play a member of Caesar’s Legion, although it’s not confirmed how much he’ll be involved, or if it’s more of a cameo appearance. For now, most New Vegas fans are just pleased that the show is acknowledging the game, although many have wondered which ending the show will follow.

In the game, players can either choose to back the NCR and defeat Caesar’s Legion, or vice versa. They can also ignore the warring factions and choose Mr. House (played by Justin Theroux in the show), or take control of Mr. House’s empire for themselves.

When asked about the different endings, Howard told Dexerto that the show will pay homage to all of them, without debunking or confirming a particular ending.

“We approached it like, ‘Hey, we need to honor all of those endings,’ and Graham and Geneva came up with some great ways to sort of do that. This idea of this fog of war, in terms of what happened and what didn’t happen.

“So, we answer in places, and each faction has a little bit of their own view, and sometimes we don’t answer,” he added.
