The Boys Season 5 trailer hidden detail sparks terrifying Homelander power theory

Homelander in The Boys Season 5 teaser trailer

The Boys Season 5 trailer has landed, confirming the superhero series will return on April 8, 2026. But you may have missed a hidden detail that suggests Homelander (Antony Starr) will become an even more terrifying threat to Butcher (Karl Urban) and co.

This would be quite the issue given Homelander has been the most powerful supe in The Boys. However, with Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and the Gen V kids now a part of the resistance, he’s got some serious competition.

In the Season 5 trailer, Butcher rounds up the troops for “one last go” in the war, and he’s got the supe virus up his sleeve. Yes, this does mean there will be deaths of fan fave characters, but as the Prime Video series says, “It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

One clip shows Homelander beating an unseen character to a pulp, while another sees him powering up in a way we haven’t seen before – and this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment may explain how.

You may have noticed at the 1:26 mark that Homelander’s eye lasers beam brighter and more powerful than ever before – but just as he’s powering up, at the top left corner is what looks like a syringe.

Could he have taken a form of V to level up his powers? If so, this would make him an even bigger threat in the supe war that’s about to unfold in The Boys Season 5

This was spotted by a Redditor, who wrote, “We see a syringe on the ground and then his laser looking insanely powerful. It looks like a full on beam of light. I think this could maybe be some new form of V that Homelander uses to become even more powerful.”

Think back to Season 4, and you’ll remember that Homelander started showing signs of aging (much to his horror, he found a grey pube).

As such, he might have taken V-One – the original Compound V formula that gives users exceptional superhuman abilities and renders them near immortal. It would essentially be two birds with one stone: giving him a power boost and halting the aging process.

“V1 seems to be the obvious answer, to stop aging and get a power up,” said one fan in response to the post. “Otherwise it could just be an extra V dose, like A-train’s addiction in Season 1, for temporary power up.”

Another agreed, “V1 would make so much sense for the guy constantly pulling out his grey pubes.” And a third added, “He gets OG V somewhere that makes him stop aging like he always wanted. May extract it from Soldier Boy’s blood or whatever.”

A fourth shared an even darker theory: “If Ryan dies, he extracts his natural V-blood into himself, giving him a massive stat boost.”

One suggested that he might take V-One to stop ageing, only to then be overpowered by The Boys in an ironic twist.

“How hilarious would it be if this scene was really about slowing HL’s aging? Since we know he will be dead or depowered by the end anyway lol,” they wrote. “Bro is gonna reap none of the benefits.”

They are, of course, referring to the ending of The Boys comics, in which Homelander dies alongside many of the main characters. However, Eric Kripke might choose to take the story in another direction.

In response to this theory, another said, “Unless we won’t? What a twist would that be if he just nuked the Earth because he was mad at everyone? What if that second screenshot is from the Moon?”
