Supergirl trailer reveals DCU movie will adapt most “gut wrenching” moment from the comics
Warner Bros.Don’t look up, look out – the first trailer for the DCU’s Supergirl is here, showing Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and a scene that’s set to adapt the most “gut-wrenching” moment from the Woman of Tomorrow comics.
David Corenswet wowed audiences as Superman earlier this year, with the new movie marking the official launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reimagined DC Universe – safe to say it was a commercial and critical success.
But now that’s been and gone, attention is turning to what’s next. Before James Watkins’ R-rated Clayface movie and the Man of Steel follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, we’re getting Supergirl.
Following her hilarious (and chaotic) cameo at the end of Superman, Alcock will be leading the upcoming DCU movie, which is based on the Woman of Tomorrow comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Supergirl teaser trailer reveals devastating DC comics scene
The first teaser trailer for Supergirl landed on December 10, 2025, and one scene has caught viewers’ eyes: what looks like a funeral held by Argo City residents. Wearing all white, they’re seen carrying a coffin, with what looks to be Kara walking next to her father.
Taking to Reddit, one person, Kara in white at what seems to be a funeral procession HAS to be Krypton right?” To which another said, “That’s is Argo City, based off of her and the other people wearing outfits similar to Jor El and Lara. That part of the comic is gut wrenching.”
A third added, “If I remember correctly, Argo City in the Woman of Tomorrow was dying of Kryptonite radiation, which is what led to Kara’s parents sending her to Earth. Could be the same case here, explaining the funeral.”

Warner Bros.“That’s definitely David Krumholtz right next to her in that wide shot, he’s playing Kara’s dad,” a fourth chimed in. Even though it’s an emotional moment in the comics, fans are hoping to see it play out in the movie.
“I hope we get that scene of her seeing the destruction of Krypton. That’s emotional punch of the book and was my ‘oh sh*t’ moment because I never took into account Supergirl’s POV on that day. She REALLY lost friends and family that day and has memories of it.”
As you can see, Supergirl will be edgier than its TV counterparts, centering on Kara Zor-El traveling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto, during which she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and goes on a “murderous quest for revenge.”
Gunn previously told DC, “She’s a much harsher and more f***ed up Supergirl than you’ve been used to [on screen] thus far.”
DC Comics“Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, whereas Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton,” he added. “She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”
Alongside Alcock, Jason Momoa is taking on a role he was born to play: Lobo. Meanwhile, Matthias Schoenaerts will portray lead antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hills, who killed Rutheye’s father.
Speaking of which, Rutheye will be played by Eve Ridley, while Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz have taken on the respective roles of Supergirl’s mother and father.
Supergirl flies into cinemas on June 26, 2026. Until then, check out everything we know about The Batman 2, why Robert Pattinson should be the DCU’s Batman, and our ranking of the best superhero movies ever made.
