NetflixSupergirl actor Matthias Schoenaerts – who plays villain Krem in the forthcoming DCU movie – has been charged with driving offenses that carry a six month prison sentence, though the star is likely to avoid jail.
Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts burst onto the world stage via his powerhouse performance in the Oscar-nominated Bullhead, followed by acclaimed turns in arthouse hits Rust and Bone and The Danish Girl.
He’s also tried his hand at action, playing Uncle Vanya in Red Sparrow, and Booker in The Old Guard movies on Netflix.
Next year is set to be a big one for Schoenaerts as he makes his DC debut as antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hills in Supergirl, though before then the star has multiple legal issues to contend with…
Matthias Schoenaerts sentenced for driving offenses
NetflixDeadline reports – as per Belgian news agency Belga – that Schoenaerts has been sentenced to six months for two instances of riding a motorbike without a valid licence in 2024, while still being banned from a previous driving offense.
The actor was sentenced “in absentia” for failing to appear in front of the court, while according to the source, Schoenaerts had been required to take remedial exams, but failed to do so. He was also fined €4,000, and had a new one-year driving ban imposed.
Court spokesperson Luc De Cleir told Belga that Schoenaerts is unlikely to end up in prison, however, and said that he could also appeal the ruling.
But his legal issues might not end there, as Belga also reports that Schoenaerts was stopped by Belgian police again last month, at which point he didn’t have a licence, refused a breath test, and “behaved aggressively” when his vehicle was towed, all of which is now said to be under investigation.
