Stranger Things creator has important advice for Season 5 viewers

Stranger Things 5 Volume 1 is now streaming on Netflix, but creator Ross Duffer has some viewing advice if you are planning to watch those first four episodes.

Anticipation has been high for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, so-much-so that when Volume 1 dropped, so many people tuned in that Netflix briefly went down.

But those first four episodes are now successfully streaming, and there’s lots going on, from the introduction of Mr. Watsit and the return of 008, to a bunch of amazing 1980s songs playing on the soundtrack, including a Tiffany classic.

But if you haven’t yet watched, there’s something you might need to do in advance of tuning in…

Ross Duffer wants Stranger Things fans to turn off “garbage” TV settings

Alongside his twin brother Matt, Ross Duffer is the co-creator and co-showrunner of Stranger Things, and he wants people to watch the final episodes the way they were meant to be viewed.

That means potentially changing settings on your television set, and Ross posted an Instagram video featuring some very specific instructions.

He begins by saying: “A little PSA before you watch tonight. I just want to make sure that your TVs are set up properly.”

Ross then tells fans to switch off dynamic contrast, super resolution, edge enhancer, and color filter, settings he refers to as “crap” and “garbage.”

Duffer then suggests disabling noise reduction, and calls true-motion and smooth-motion major “offenders” that should be switched off to avoid “the dreaded soap opera effect.”

He ends the advice with one final warning: “Whatever you do, do not switch anything on called ‘vivid’ because it’s gonna turn on all the worst offenders. It’s gonna destroy the color, and it’s not the filmmaker’s intent.”
