Japanese voice actress Yuko Miyamura, best known as the iconic voice of Asuka Langley Soryu in the iconic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, is officially stepping into the VTuber world with a brand-new avatar.
According to Automaton, the news was shared during her latest birthday livestream and comes as Miyamura continues recovering from two serious chronic conditions that previously affected her voice and ability to speak.
On December 4, Miyamura thanked fans for celebrating her 53rd birthday and addressed her ongoing health challenges in a post on X. She joked about appearing on-stream with “tired, puffy eyes and wrinkled skin” before revealing the milestone announcement fans have been waiting for.

“Thank you for celebrating with me. No matter how old I get, being celebrated is always a joy, and I’m truly grateful that I’m 53. My nightly livestreams must be a sight for sore eyes, with my tired, puffy eyes and wrinkled skin. My apologies for the poor appearance,” she said.
“Finally, that V-avatar I announced at the 30th-anniversary live event is complete! The design by Yun Koga is utterly adorable! The V-avatar for Yuko Miyamura will be implemented in a year-end livestream. Stay tuned!”
The new avatar was designed by celebrated artist Yun Koga, marking a major crossover between one of anime’s most recognisable voice talents and a creator beloved for her work in Loveless and character designs across anime and games.
After years of health struggles that limited her ability to perform, Miyamura is easing back into work by keeping fans updated through personal livestreams as her new VTuber model.
