There’s a sneaky way to watch Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas for free

We’re normally used to seeing Kevin Costner taking his foes to the train station in Yellowstone, but now he’s leading an altogether different project with Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas – and there’s an easy way to watch it for free right now.

For better or worse, faith-driven family storytelling is big business right now. The Chosen broke a Guinness World Record as the most-translated streaming TV series, while The Passion of the Christ 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2027.

Given his love of traditional values, it shouldn’t be that surprising that Kevin Costner is getting in on the action (even if he is best known for his role as John Dutton and his recent western movie project, Horizon).

With the holidays fast approaching, streaming services are bumping up their festive releases, with The First Christmas sparking interest for its retelling of the Nativity story this season.

What is it about?

Baby Jesus being held in Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas

Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas, which premiered on ABC on December 9, is a two-hour special that offers up a grittier retelling of the birth of Jesus, with additional context from experts and commentary from Costner, who also serves as host.

Speaking to USA Today, the Yellowstone star said, “We all think we know [the story]. We all wait for this time of year and then we get mad at it, too, because now it’s ‘so much stuff I have to do, and I hate this.’ It’s ‘too many people are coming to the house.’

“There’s this other story that changed the world, a lot of the world… I was proud to be able to do it. I’m sure I’m going to confront the cynics and the nonbelievers, who I invite to sit down too, and they can feel how they feel. But I was really happy. This gave me pleasure to do it.”

Costner himself grew up surrounded by religion, and he stands by his faith today. “We can’t always explain what moves us or what gives us this kind of determination or this faith that we will come out of this dark spot,” Costner said.

“We can’t. We just choose to believe, and it’s something that has really sustained me… I have had tremendous ups, and I have been bruised equally.

“I’ve had things said about me that I know, you know – but I have to endure them. And so how do I choose to live my life, in anger or in faith that things will reveal themselves in the right way? And so I’ve just chosen to do that.

“But being a human, you keep thinking to God, ‘You need to hurry up, God. Listen, I’ve been praying for this for a long time. You got to pick it up a little bit.’ But we live with faith, so we’re going to be tested. It’s just we’re tested all the time.”
