Is Zack Snyder returning to continue the Snyderverse? DC rumors explained

A new report claims that Zack Snyder is returning to continue the Snyderverse when the Warner Bros. sale eventually goes forward, but is it true? Here’s what to know about those DC rumors.

Warner Bros. is officially up for sale, and at the time of writing on November 24, 2025, Paramount, Comcast, and Netflix have all submitted bids to acquire the studio. There were also claims that the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, the Qatar Investment Authority, and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority were involved. But DC fans are wondering what all this means for James Gunn’s universe, which took off with this year’s Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.

Rumors floated in October that Gunn was getting fired as co-chairman of DC Studios, but that hasn’t happened yet and he remains at the studio. But the reports surrounding the Warner Bros. sale still have some fans speculating that he’ll be removed from DC if/when new owners come onboard.

Now, a new report claims that a potential buyer will bring back Snyder and his version of the Ben Affleck Batman, Henry Cavill’s Superman, and the rest of the Justice League. Here’s what to know.

Zack Snyder is not officially resurrecting the Snyderverse

At the moment, Zack Snyder is not resurrecting the SnyderVerse with the previous roster of actors at Warner Bros. However, a report by Cosmic Book News claims that if the Saudi Arabia Public investment Fund purchases Warner Bros., then they will choose to restore the Snyderverse with the director’s full involvment.

The outlet claims that the Saudi Arabian investors want to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe to deliver an “event” franchise to compete with the likes of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Although CBN claimed in an early “exclusive” citing unnamed insiders that Gunn would be ousted as DC Studios co-chairman, a later report from the oulet stated that the Saudi Arabian buyers are keen to keep both versions of the DCU ongoing “without rocking the boat.”

Henry Cavill as Superman

But it seems unlikely that a studio like Warner Bros. would entertain the concept of having two full universes exist on the big screen at the same time. It’s one thing to have Matt Reeves’ The Batman exist on its own under the Elseworlds banner, it’s another to have a full set of other superheroes alongside Gunn’s new universe. The brand would become too diluted.

For now, Warner Bros. has not announced any news regarding the Snyderverse since 2021. Back then, former-CEO Ann Sarnoff told Variety that the company was “happy” to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League, but it was the “completion of his trilogy.”

Yes, it looks like Warner Bros. will be sold to new buyers, but at this point it seems highly unlikely that the new owners will backpedal over the fact that Gunn successfully started a brand new universe, with Superman making $616.7 million worldwide.

It’s also worth noting that these claims are not backed up by official statements from Warner Bros., Snyder himself, or even the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. Representatives for Zack Snyder did not immediately reply to Dexerto’s request for comment.

Ben Affleck isn’t keen to play Batman again, but he’s not saying no either

Ben Affleck as Batman in Justice League

One of the many reports from the outlet claimed that Ben Affleck might return to play Batman alongside Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman, but it did not name any source or provide evidence.

DC fans will remember Affleck was originally set to direct and star in a solo movie, but that project eventually became The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, which is not part of Gunn’s DCU.

In a lengthy interview with GQ in April 2025, Affleck explained that he’s not keen to return to superhero movies. “I am not interested in going down that particular genre again, not because of that bad experience, but just: I’ve lost interest in what was of interest about it to me.”

During the same interview, he said that he stepped away from playing Batman due to issues in his personal life.

“I had my own failings, significant failings, in that process and at that time… in terms of why I had a bad experience, part of it is that what I was bringing to work every day was a lot of unhappiness.”

However, fans were surprised by a small comment he made on The Accountant 2 red carpet, where he was asked if he’d ever return by reporter Alyssa Brook Lee, and replied: “Anything is possible.”

Now, before we get carried away — that answer was a very quick response to the question before he walked away. It’s entirely possible Affleck was just being polite and not wanting to ignore the person engaging him at a public event.

Obviously, it’s more positive than his previous comments, but we shouldn’t read too much into it. Representatives for Ben Affleck did not immediately reply to Dexerto’s request for comment.

Until the Warner Bros. sale is complete and someone specifically states what the plan is for DC Studios (and beyond) it’s best to focus on the guaranteed projects that are in development, rather than unconfirmed reports. The upcoming DC slate is packed with some intriguing projects, including Supergirl, Man of Tomorrow, and the Lanterns TV series.
