Is Timothee Chalamet EsDeeKid? Here’s what to know about actor’s rumored rapper alter-ego
Lizzy Records/Warner Bros.Social media users are convinced that Timothee Chalamet is British rapper EsDeeKid, and the speculation has grown so much that the actor has finally commented on it. So here’s what we know about Chalamet’s rumored alter-ego.
Chalamet is fast becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood, especially after his famous speech at the SAG awards, where he said that he’s in “pursuit of greatness” with his career. He’s best known for starring in movies like A Complete Unknown, Dune, Wonka, and Call Me By Your Name. The star will next appear in this year’s sports drama, Marty Supreme, from director Josh Safdie.
But fans online have a theory that Chalamet is the man behind masked viral British rapper, EsDeeKid, who released tracks like Bally, LV Sandals, and Cali Man. EsDeeKid only has his eyes on show above his mask, and fans believe that the pair look similar.
Although some of EsDeeKid’s tour appearances don’t seem to line up with Chalamet’s whereabouts on the Marty Supreme tour, the actor recently gave a mysterious answer about the rapper that has fans convinced that they’re the same person.
Is Timothee Chalamet EsDeeKid?
A24Right now, we don’t know for sure. But Chalamet was questioned about the EsDeeKid rumors during an interview with Heart radio in the UK, and although he didn’t confirm or deny the speculation from fans, he gave a curious answer.
“All will be revealed in due time,” the Marty Supreme star said. EsDeeKid still hasn’t publicly commented on the rumors.
For now, all this means is that Chalamet is aware of the rumors, and perhaps suggests that he’s involved in some way. It’s still possible that he is using EsDeeKid as an outlet to make cloud rap and trap music away from his acting career, or even as a vehicle for a future project.

Chalamet has previously spoken at length about his love for the rap genre, and he also used to perform under the name Lil Timmy Tim before his acting career blew up. And how we could we forget his stint on Saturday Night Live where he played a new age rapper called $mokecheddathaassgetta?
Aside from the similarities in their faces, Chalamet was also spotted at Fakemink’s performance in London in August, and the rapper worked with EsDeeKid on his track LV Sandals. EsDeeKid has also been seen wearing similar designer clothing owned by Chalamet.
If Chalamet is EsDeeKid, fans will likely have even more questions about the whole debacle. Like, why did Chalamet pick a Liverpudlian accent for his alter-ego? Was it to disguise his identity, or is it an exercise in accents to help develop his acting skills further?
But before we get carried away on the Chalamet/EsDeeKid hype train, a report from GQ might debunk the situation entirely.
Timothée Chalamet and EsDeeKid timeline anomaly
In November, GQ investigated the claims that Chalamet is EsDeeKid, and looked to see if the timelines between them both matched up. The oulet noted that dates line up between Chalamet’s Marty Supreme press tour and EsDeeKid’s European performances, noting that Chalamet could easily hop across the Atlantic in between interviews and appearances.
But GQ found a particular sticking point in October: on October 9, EsDeeKid was performing at a gig in Milan at 8pm, and Chalamet was at a later Marty Supreme screening in New York on the same day a few hours afterwards.
After working out the time differences, and the fact that it takes around nine hours to fly from Milan to New York, they concluded that Chalamet wouldn’t have had enough time to get back to the US.
Obviously, it’s entirely possible that Chalamet used a double for the EsDeeKid performance so he could attend the Marty Supreme screening. But then we’re getting into Bruce Wayne/Batman territory, and it all starts getting silly. For now, it’s clear that Chalamet is having fun with the rumors, and hopefully we’ll get some clarity soon.
