2024 was an interesting year in cinemas, with animated movies like Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Despicable Me 4, and Kung Fu Panda 4 all making a mint, while Deadpool & Wolverine was the biggest non-animated effort.
That was part of the Marvel Cinematic universe, and 2025 has been a fascinating year for the studio, with Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four: First Steps all hitting screens within months of each other over the summer. Meanwhile, DC has planted its flag in the ground via James Gunn’s new Superman movie.
So, the following is a list of the films that have been packing them in since January 1, 2025.

Here’s the Top 10 movies of the year, globally, meaning we’re listing each film’s worldwide gross, followed by US release date:
- Ne Zha 2 – $1.902 billion (out January 29)
- Lilo & Stitch – $1.037 billion (out May 23)
- A Minecraft Movie – $957 million (out April 4)
- Zootopia 2 – $915 million (out November 28)
- Jurassic World Rebirth – $868 million (out July 2)
- Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – $768 million (out September 12)
- How to Train Your Dragon – $636 million (out June 13)
- F1: The Movie – $631 million (out June 27)
- Superman – $616 million (out July 11)
- Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – $598 million (out May 23)
We’ll update this list weekly as and when new movies crack the Top 10, but Ne Zha 2 is the big story, with the Chinese sequel now the biggest animated film of all time, and the fifth highest-grossing feature ever.
