When is Dear X Episode 9 & 10 out? K-drama release schedule

Ah-jin in Dear X

Dear X Episode 8 featured multiple shocking twists before ending on an ominous cliffhanger, so be sure to find out exactly when the next chapter – Episodes 9 and 10 – drops, what to expect, and how to watch the K-drama.

Based on Vanziun’s webtoon of the same name, the new TV show centers on Baek Ah-jin (Kim Yoo-jung), a sociopath with a dark past who leverages her charm and good looks to climb her way to the top.

Essentially, Ah-jin has proven that she’s not someone to mess with (or even befriend), with her step brother Yoon Jun-seo (Kim Young-dae) and childhood friend Kim Jae-oh (Kim Do-hoon) stopping at nothing to aid her.

But with Jun-seo waking up to her cold heart, her connection to a string of deaths, and a mystery man now seeking the truth, could Ah-jin’s actions start catching up to her? Warning: spoilers ahead, and some may find this content distressing

What happened in Episode 8?

In-gang and Ah-jin in Dear X

Episode 8 of Dear X is one of the show’s most intense chapters yet. The biggest revelation is that Ah-jin didn’t kill In-gang’s grandmother Hong Kyung-Suk – the fall really was a tragic accident. But the fallout is devastating: after Ah-jin breaks up with In-gang, he dies by suicide.

At the end, a mysterious, powerful character (who we’ll no doubt learn more about in Episode 9) begins investigating Ah-jin’s connection to Jae-oh, Jun-seo, and co.

Prior to this, Kyung-suk is in the hospital, fighting for her life after tumbling down the stairs, only to pass away soon after. Ah-jin provides the police with a vague account, claiming the elderly woman fell while feeding stray cats.

Flashbacks reveal their last confrontation, with Kyung-suk accusing Ah-jin of deceiving her grandson.

At the funeral, suspicions swirl. In-gang’s brother confronts Choi Jung-ho about his past with Ah-jin’s family, only for Jung-ho to defend her, later saying prison made him realise how abandoned she truly was.

Meanwhile, Ah-jin’s rising fame catches the eye of director Seol Yeong-uk, who wants her for his next global project.

As for Jun-seo, he’s tormented by the possibility that Ah-jin killed Kyung-suk. He’s handed the security footage that could prove the truth, yet can’t bring himself to watch it.

Elsewhere, Ah-jin coldly breaks up with In-gang, revealing her most manipulative side and admitting she stole Kyung-suk’s diary. The breakup shatters him, and by morning, Mi-ri discovers him dead in the bathtub.

This leads to public opinion turning violently against Ah-jin, and Mi-ri switches sides, teaming up with reporter Lim in a bid to expose Ah-jin’s past.

In one of the episode’s strongest moments, we finally see what really happened with Kyung-suk: she forgave Ah-jin, hugged her, and moments later collapsed from sudden dizziness as Ah-jin tried to catch her.

Ah-jin was telling the truth. Jun-seo, watching the security footage at last, realizes she’s innocent.

The episode closes with the chilling arrival of a wealthy, influential stranger – the man whose henchmen assaulted Jae-oh – now determined to uncover Ah-jin’s secrets.

Mystery character in Dear X

Episode 8 continues Dear X’s moral complexity. As monstrous as Ah-jin can be, her innocence in Kyung-suk’s death reveals she does have some humanity.

This was commented on by fans of the K-drama, with one writing on Reddit: “Kim Yoo-jung mentioned in the interviews that in portraying Ah-jin, she deliberately did not blink to convey the emptiness in Ah-jin’s eyes as a sociopath, who’s become numb in emotions.

“So if you go back to almost all of the scenes in the past episodes, Ah-jin rarely blinked. She didn’t blink when she was threatened nor when she’s confronting someone she just manipulated.

“And yet, in Episode 8 when Ah-jin was being interviewed by the officer about the grandma’s death, especially the moment where she was mentioning about the kitten, Ah-jin was blinking a lot.

“It was probably a subtle clue that Kim Yoo-jung deliberately did to convey the message that Ah-jin was in fact, telling the truth that time. Because she wasn’t anymore feeling empty but instead was feeling guilty about what happened.”
