HBO / Warner Bros.Daniel Radcliffe has revealed he reached out to new Harry Potter actor Dominic McLaughlin as production on the HBO remake series ramps up.
It’s been 24 years since Radcliffe first brought The Boy Who Lived off the page and onto the screen. Now 14 years removed from the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, his final appearance in the role, the story is set to begin anew.
HBO announced its plans to adapt J. K. Rowling’s books into a TV series back in 2023, and it’s been full steam ahead ever since for what’s being described as a “10-year journey.”
Production kicked off earlier this year, and filming is so rigorous a school has even been built nearby for all the children involved. Chief among them is Dominic McLaughlin, the 11-year-old taking up the mantle of Potter himself.
In a full circle moment, Radcliffe has revealed he made contact with the new child actor, wishing him well for the journey he’s about to embark on.

Set to air in 2027, the HBO series is currently in the midst of filming. Radcliffe told Good Morning America he ‘knows’ a few people involved in the production, so he reached out to them to get in contact with McLaughlin.
“I sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back,” Radcliffe revealed.
“I just wanted to write to him and say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did – I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.”
Having seen the early promotional images himself, Radcliffe added how he ‘just wants to hug’ the new kids involved in the blockbuster adaptation.

“They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet, and I hope they’re having a great time.”
Back in 2024, Radcliffe shut down rumors he may get involved with the HBO series directly, saying HBO “very wisely want to [have] a clean break.”
Whether any other original cast members will make appearances remains to be seen. Much of the new cast has been rounded out, with the likes of Nick Frost stepping into Hagrid’s shoes, and Paapa Essiedu playing Severus Snape. Though one of the most important roles, that of Voldemort, is still being kept under wraps.
