Alien: Earth renewed for Season 2 & it could come sooner than you think

If you’ve just watched the finale and you’re already desperate for Alien: Earth Season 2, I have great news: Season 2 is officially on the way.

Noah Hawley’s series, an Alien: Romulus sequel, Predator: Badlands; there’s never been a better time to be a fan of Alien and Predator. After Episode 8, the TV show is up there with the best Alien movies, and undoubtedly one of the greatest shows of 2025.

However, you couldn’t be blamed if you were concerned about its future. After all, the streaming service era is brutal to new series; just this year, Disney+ axed Goosebumps, and Netflix has cancelled at least seven projects (including The Waterfront).

Thankfully, Alien fans can exhale. Season 2 is indeed moving forward, and it may be ready much sooner than you’d expect. Spoilers to follow.

Is Alien: Earth Season 2 happening?

Yes, Alien: Earth Season 2 is officially going ahead., The show’s creator Noah Hawley inked a new deal with Disney on November 11, 2025, with a second season part of the agreement.

“We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth, as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development,” FX Chairman John Landgraf said.

Speaking to Variety a few weeks prior, Hawley said: “Season 1 is the proof of concept. And if it works commercially, then Season 2 is about building a model upon which we can envision making a Season 3, 4, 5.

“[It’s] designed to be a recurring series. I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it.”

FX chief Landgraf also said: “We’re pretty bullish on Alien: Earth and we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth is a returning television series, we want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”

Is there an Alien: Earth Season 2 release date?

Alien: Earth Season 2 doesn’t have a release date, but based on the production timeline, there’s a chance it could be released in 2027.

Alongside news of the renewal, it was also confirmed that filming is set to kick off in 2026, with production moving from Thailand to London. As such, should filming wrap next year, VFX will follow before the possible 2027 release.

“The question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?” Hawley told the Evolution of Horror podcast.

This has become a common criticism of modern TV. Look at Severance, which took three years to produce a second season. House of the Dragon Season 2 was truncated to eight episodes, and Season 3 will have taken another two years. Stranger Things Season 5 is dropping over three years after Season 4.

The fact that Hawley is already speaking about “streamlining” the series would suggest it won’t take much longer than two years to produce another season, so sometime in 2027 seems like the most sensible estimate.

What will happen in Alien: Earth Season 2?

Joe and Wendy in Alien: Earth Episode 7

Alien: Earth Season 2 doesn’t have a confirmed synopsis, so it’s presumed it’ll follow the events of the finale, with Wendy and the hybrids “ruling” over Boy Kavalier’s island.

By the end of Episode 8, Wendy had total control over everyone and (almost) everything in the base. Kavalier, Kirsh, Morrow, Dame Sylvia, and Atom Eins (revealed to be a synthetic) are all locked up and under the watchful… face of Wendy’s right-hand Xenomorph.

However, big problems await them. Specifically, Yutani is en route to the base, and the “eye midge” has taken control of Arthur’s dead body. Also, the plant creature is still on the loose.

“I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I’m telling, what it means. And I don’t know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success,” Hawley said.

The real question is, how far will Alien: Earth go in the franchise’s timeline, given it’s set two years before the original film.

“Those first three films take place over the course of let’s say 100 years, of which Sigourney Weaver’s awake for nearly a year and a half, right? There’s a lot of negative space in there for us to work,” Hawley told Dexerto.

“And I think that because there’s such a lack of mythology in the Alien movies – about how humanity is organised – if we’re going to come to Earth and tell that story, it then informs all of the movies to go ‘oh, I see, well this is how humanity was organised when these movies started.’

“There’s no crystal ball. I don’t have it all worked out. I think what I would say is, is it plausible that the show might end up reaching the moment in which the movie begins and going beyond it? I think that’s certainly plausible.

“Could we see what’s happening on the other side of that phone call – the message sent to Ian Holm, to the ship – we could get there? I don’t know that we would literally do that, but certainly that’s where and when the story is taking place.”
