A huge fan of The Simpsons has been hit with a big bill after other drivers have been using fake versions of her license plate to avoid paying tolls while on the road.

Any fan of The Simpsons is well aware of the BORT license plate. The joke, which comes from their travels to Itchy and Scratchy land, has become a real-life piece of memorabilia for some of the biggest fans.

You can get your hands on the must-have merch with a small license plate at Universal Studios. But, there are some super fans who actually have the plate on their cars in the United States. Each state allows one person to own the BORT plate, but that has caused issues for Katie Unis in Massachusetts.

The massive Simpsons fan has started racking up a huge bill because of other drivers using the fake plates to avoid paying road tolls.

As per WBZ Radio, the Massachusetts plates have similar colors to The Simpsons merch, meaning that the cameras that scan car plates have blamed Unis for not paying.

“I’m continuing to get notices, and I don’t know when they’ll stop,” she told the radio station. The Simpsons fan also showed off some of the photos she’s gotten from the EZ Pass system.

“I get this one, that looks like me, but this one, you guys is a little bit bad. The AI is a little bit bad at its job.”

According to Unis, she has challenged the fees, but has yet to get a response from different states, including New York.

She has seen the “funny” side of people tricking the system, but said it is “causing a little bit of a headache” for her.

Some viewers on TikTok claimed that they’ve been running the BORT plate to avoid tolls too. “I am very sorry if a bill was sent to you!!!,” one said. “It’s like the guy that had “NULL” as a plate and got ALL the “unreadable plate” tickets,” another added.
