EA / DexertoThe creator of a popular Sims 4 updater, which was used to unlock more than $1,500 worth of DLC for free, has taken the tool offline for good, confirming their departure in a brief statement to users.
Known online as Anadius, the developer behind the unofficial launcher announced they were stepping away from the project on November 20, leaving the tool permanently disabled and unusable, even for players who already had the program installed.
The updater had been widely circulated for years, allowing players to pirate the full catalogue of Sims 4 expansions without paying for EA’s official DLC packs.
Anadius says the updater is “dead” after stepping down
In a forum post confirming that the updater had been taken offline, Anadius didn’t provide a specific reason for their decision.
“I decided to step down. Don’t pester my close friends; until the end, I acted like an asshole, and I haven’t told them the reason why either,” they said, adding, “Sims 4 Updater is dead, dead.”
Anyone who already had the updater installed now receives the following messages when attempting to launch the software: “Sims 4 Updater is dead, permanently this time. It was a good run, bye!”
In addition to retiring the launcher, Anadius’ X/Twitter profile has been deleted, and their website is no longer accessible.
While the launcher is no longer available, Anadius said that other widely available tools would remain available, although they would no longer be maintaining them themselves.
