NIANTICPokemon Go features every Eevee evolution, providing players with plenty of choices when evolving the popular ‘mon.
Still, with so many different options, it’s not immediately obvious how to get them all because – just like in the main series games – each Eeveelution has different requirements.
Whether you’re drawn to the fiery energy of Flareon or the icy coolness of Glaceon, you’ll need at least one of each if you want to complete the Pokedex. So, here’s a rundown of exactly how you can get all the Eevee evolutions in Pokemon Go and how to pull off the Eevee name trick.
Evolving Eevee in Pokemon Go
Candy is the basic requirement for every evolution in Pokemon Go, no matter what. With Eevee, even though there are eight different Eeveelutions, all of them require you to feed your Eevee the same amount: 25 Candy.
DEXERTOOnce you have the required amount of Candy, there are two roads players can follow to evolve their Eevee, the first one being the nickname trick. It’s the easiest and most commonly used method, as it ensures you get the Eeveelution you’re looking for with minimal effort.
The second one requires you to follow certain steps before evolving the Pokemon, but even though it sounds more fun, it can also be quite tedious.
How to get Eevee Candy
Players can gather Eevee Candy through different methods:
- By capturing the Pokemon in the wild.
- Hatching it from Eggs (2, 5, 7, or 10 km – depending on the Egg rotation).
- Defeating it when it appears as a Tier 1 Raid Boss.
- By completing certain Research Tasks.
Eevee evolution name trick
This method requires you to change the name of the Eevee you’re trying to evolve to the nickname of the evolution you want. The nicknames you’ll need to rename your Eevee to for each evolution are as follows:
EEVEELUTION | NICKNAME |
|---|---|
Flareon ![]() | Pyro |
Using the nickname trick is by far the easiest way to get the Eeveelution you want, but you can only do it once per Eevee evolution. Every following one will require a different approach.

How to evolve Eevee into Flareon, Jolteon & Vaporeon
There’s no surefire way to get Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon outside the single-use name trick, as it’s completely random when you hit the evolve button.
This means you’ll need to be very lucky to get the one you want on your first try. To get them all, you’ll need to catch multiple Eevee and stock up on lots of Candy, as the evolution costs 25 Candy every time.
Make sure your chosen Eevee doesn’t meet any of the other Eeveelutions’ requirements mentioned below before hitting the “Evolve” button.
How to evolve Eevee into Espeon
Unlike the previous evolutions, the Psychic-type Espeon doesn’t evolve from Eevee at random; it requires specific actions:
- Open your main menu.
- Go to your Pokemon and search for the Eevee you want to evolve.
- Scroll down on its page and select “SWAP BUDDIES“.
- Tap “OK” to change your current Buddy for Eevee.
- Walk 10km with Eevee by your side.
- When you’re done, go back to Eevee’s page and trigger the evolution.
Keep in mind that the Evolution button will be unlocked only during the daytime.
How to evolve Eevee into Umbreon
Unlike the previous evolutions, the Dark-type Umbreon doesn’t evolve from Eevee at random; it requires specific actions:
- Open your main menu.
- Go to your Pokemon and search for the Eevee you want to evolve.
- Scroll down on its page and select “SWAP BUDDIES“.
- Tap “OK” to change your current Buddy for Eevee.
- Walk 10km with Eevee by your side.
- When you’re done, go back to Eevee’s page and trigger the evolution.
Keep in mind that – unlike with Espeon – the Evolution button will be unlocked only during the nighttime. You can tell if it’s considered nighttime because the in-game sky will be dark.
How to evolve Eevee into Leafeon
Unlike Espeon and Umbreon, the Grass-type Leafeon doesn’t evolve from Eevee by going on walks, but it does require specific actions:
- Open the main menu.
- Go to the Shop.
- Search for the Mossy Lure Module and purchase it – it costs 180 PokeCoins.
- Go to the nearest PokeStop and tap on it.
- At the top of the Photo Disc, there’s a slot for Lures. Press it.
- Select the Mossy Lure Module to attach it to the PokeStop – leaves will twirl around the structure.
- Go to your Eevee’s main page and trigger the Leafeon evolution.
Besides being bought, Mossy Lure Modules can also be earned through Research tasks. So, if you already have one, just skip steps 2 and 3.
How to evolve Eevee into Glaceon
Similar to Leafeon, the Ice-type Glaceon requires specific actions to be evolved, and it involves another type of Lure Module:
- Open the main menu.
- Go to the Shop.
- Search for the Glacial Lure Module and purchase it – it costs 180 PokeCoins.
- Go to the nearest PokeStop and tap on it.
- At the top of the Photo Disc, there’s a slot for Lures. Press it.
- Select the Glacial Lure Module to attach it to the PokeStop – snowflakes will twirl around the structure.
- Go to your Eevee’s main page and trigger the Glaceon evolution.
Besides being bought, the Glacial Lure Module can also be earned through Research tasks. So, if you already have one, just skip steps 2 and 3.
How to evolve Eevee into Sylveon
Eevee’s last evolution – the Fairy-type Sylveon – also requires specific actions to be triggered:
- Open your main menu.
- Go to your Pokemon and search for the Eevee you want to evolve.
- Scroll down on its page and select “SWAP BUDDIES“.
- Tap “OK” to change your current Buddy for Eevee.
- With Eevee as your Buddy, earn 70 Hearts to achieve Best Buddy status.
- Once you succeed, the evolution button on your chosen Eevee will be unlocked.
- Tap “Evolve” to get your Sylveon.
You can earn Hearts with your Buddy by feeding them treats, playing with them, walking long distances together, battling, taking snapshots, and spinning new PokeStops or Gyms.
Can Eevee and its Eeveelutions be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Eevee and all eight evolutions can be Shiny, and all you require is one Shiny Eevee to then get the Shiny Eeveelution you’re after.
Shine Eevee was released during its own Community Day back in August 2018, along with Shiny Vaporeon, Shiny Jolteon, Shiny Flareon, Shiny Espeon, and Shiny Umbreon.
Shiny Leafeon and Shiny Glaceon arrived in May 2019, when their regular forms and Lure Modules were added to the game.
Finally, Shiny Sylveon appeared in Pokemon Go along with its regular form during the Luminous Legends Y Part 2 event on May 2021.
That’s everything you need to get all the Eevee evolutions in Pokemon Go. If you’re wondering which Eeveelution is the best, we’ve ranked them all right here, as well as the ultimate competitive Pokemon and Mega Evolutions.
