Pokemon Go Battle League – Best Great League Remix team

The Great League Remix is an alternative to the common Great League tournament tier in Pokemon Go‘s PvP. If you want to participate now that it’s back, here is our recommended team as well as our top picks.

Besides the usual GreatUltra, and Master League competitions, Niantic regularly introduces new and remixed Cups to the Pokemon Go Battle League to offer trainers fresh challenges and to make them rethink their best teams.

However, if you’re planning on participating, remember that each team member must be below 1,500 CP, and there are 20 Pokemon that are not eligible.

Best team for the Pokemon Go Great League Remix

The best team you can currently take into the Great League Remix includes Carbink, Forretress, and Shadow Gligar, as these are three of the strongest Pokemon that should give you coverage against the most common opponents.

As with any league or cup, it’s impossible to say what a true ‘best’ team looks like in the Great League Remix, as it really depends on the Pokemon your opponent sends out – and you won’t know that until the battle begins.

Still, there are a few Pokemon that can perform well in most situations, which we’ve listed below alongside their optimal movesets and weaknesses.

Best Great League Remix Pokemon

Dusknoir

pokemon go dusknoir
  • Fast Move: Astonish
  • Charged Moves: Shadow Punch and Dynamic Punch
  • Type: Ghost
  • Resistances: Normal, Fighting, Poison, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Dark and Ghost

This Pokemon works best as the lead or charger of a team. Plus, it has the necessary Defense to stand its ground while dealing good damage.

Astonish is a very spammy move that will allow it to access its Charged Moves fast while also getting rid of the opponent’s shields. The key to Dusknoir making it into the League is mainly because of Shadow Punch, an excellent Ghost-type move, and Dynamic Punch, a Fighting-type attack that expands its coverage.

Gligar

Arlo's Gligar in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Fury Cutter
  • Charged Moves: Night Slash and Dig
  • Type: Ground/Flying
  • Resistances: Electric, Fighting, Poison, Bug, and Ground
  • Weaknesses: Ice and Water

Even though this small creature seems harmless, it is one of the best options for the battle league as it is very dynamic and can work perfectly as a lead, switch, charger, and even closer.

Wing Attack used to be its preferred Fast Move, but since the Max Out season (where it was nerfed), Fury Cutter has taken over.

As for the Charged Moves, both are relatively cheap and benefit from STAB. Night Slash can help you boost your Attack stat by 50%, while Dig is super useful and deals a great amount of damage.

Goodra

pokemon go goodra
  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Moves: Aqua Tail and Thunder Punch
  • Type: Dragon
  • Resistances: Electric, Fire, Grass, and Water
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, and Ice

This slimy Dragon from Gen 6 has an outstanding bulk, which is a big factor in its success in the Great League Remix, alongside its spammy moves. Plus, it has great type coverage in its move pool.

With five different types across both Fast and Charged Moves, it can counter many different Pokemon, making it useful for almost all scenarios.

Out of both Fast Moves, Dragon Breath is the stronger choice as it benefits from STAB. For the Charged Move, Aqua Tail can expand your coverage while baiting the enemy shields and dealing decent damage. Use Thunder Punch to target Water-type opponents.

Dragonair

Dragonair in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Moves: Aqua Tail and Dragon Pulse
  • Type: Dragon
  • Resistances: Electric, Fire, Grass, and Water
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, and Ice

Although Dragonite can be eligible for the Great League Remix if its CP is low enough, the best Dragon-type Pokemon to use here is actually its pre-evolution, Dragonair, which is great news for trainers on a budget, as it’s a lot cheaper to evolve.

Dragon Breath is a brilliant Fast Move, with good STAB damage and energy generation. As for Charged Moves, go with Aqua Tail for a low-cost option to bait shields, followed up with Dragon Pulse for some huge damage potential.

Players can also switch Dragon Pulse for Wrap to decrease the target’s Defense stat by 20%.

Guzzlord

pokemon go guzzlord
  • Fast Move: Dragon Tail
  • Charged Moves: Brutal Swing and Sludge Bomb
  • Type: Dark/Dragon
  • Resistances: Psychic, Water, Grass, Ghost, Fire, Electric, and Dark
  • Weaknesses: Fairy, Bug, Dragon, Fighting, and Ice

The Ultra Beast known as Guzzlord is one of the spammiest creatures in all of the Battle League, and as if that were not enough, it has massive Stamina that will keep it alive for a very long time.

Dragon Tail is a Fast Move that generates energy extremely quickly, so Guzzlord will be able to access its Charged Moves very soon.

The Charged Move Brutal Swing might not deal great damage, but it is incredibly spammy, so use it as much as you can. While Sludge Bomb deals underwhelming damage, keep it as your secondary Charged Move for extra coverage.

Furret

pokemon go furret
  • Fast Move: Sucker Punch
  • Charged Moves: Swift and Trailblaze
  • Type: Normal
  • Resistances: Ghost
  • Weaknesses: Fighting

The tiny Furret from Gen 2 might not seem like a threat to any Great League Remix opponent. However, its very high Stamina stat and single weakness can help it survive a very long time, serving as a good switcher.

Thanks to the addition of Swift and Trailblaze, Furret can now be a useful teammate. First, use Sucker Punch as your Fast Move to benefit from its very high damage and reduce the enemy’s HP.

Then, set Swift as your main Charged Move, as it is incredibly spammy and cheap. Use Trailblaze as your secondary Charged Move to boost your Attack stat by 25%, expand your coverage, and sweep every opponent.

Lapras

pokemon go lapras
  • Fast Move: Psywave
  • Charged Moves: Sparkling Aria and Ice Beam
  • Type: Water/Ice
  • Resistances: Ice and Water
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Fighting, Grass, and Rock

Besides its great bulk, Lapras has an impressive move pool, with four Fast Moves and seven Charged Moves to pick from.

Even though focusing only on Water and Ice moves to benefit from STAB would be the logical thing to do, for the Fast Move, it is best to go with Psywave. It offers the most energy generation out of all the options, and it expands Lapras’s coverage.

Skull Bash, Blizzard, and Hydro Pump are quite expensive moves, and with a few other options available, they are just not worth it. Instead, use Sparkling Aria for a solid Charged Move with STAB. It costs the same as Surf but does five more damage.

As for the secondary Charged Move, Ice Beam will offer more coverage against Grass, Dragon, and Flying opponents while also benefiting from STAB.

Regidrago

regidrago on a pokemon go background
  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Moves: Dragon Energy and Hyper Beam
  • Type: Dragon
  • Resistances: Electric, Fire, Grass, and Water
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, and Ice

The Legendary Regidrago might be a tad hard to get, but those who have one can exploit its good Attack stat, massive Stamina, and powerful Dragon-type moveset in the Battle League.

Go with Dragon Breath (multipurpose) and Dragon Energy (cheap and incredibly strong) for a powerful Dragon-type moveset that benefits from STAB. Then add the nuke Hyper Beam as a secondary Charged Move for more coverage.

Kingdra

pokemon go kingdra
  • Fast Move: Dragon Breath
  • Charged Moves: Swift and Outrage
  • Type: Water/Dragon
  • Resistances: Fire, Water, and Steel
  • Weaknesses: Dragon and Fairy

Kingdra has really well-balanced stats, a good move pool, but mainly has a great type combination that leaves it with few weaknesses (not used in the current meta) and can key resistances that are actually being exploited this season – Water and Steel.

Dragon Breath is the best Fast Move for Kingdra as it benefits from STAB, is fast, and strong. Pair it with Swift as the Charged Move to expand your coverage and bait enemy shields. Then, add the nuke Outrage as your secondary Charged Move to deal massive Dragon-type damage at a very low cost.

Crustle

Crustle in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Fury Cutter
  • Charged Moves: X-Scissor and Rock Wrecker
  • Type: Bug/Rock
  • Resistances: Normal and Poison
  • Weaknesses: Rock, Steel, and Water

Crustle has never been a PvP star in Pokemon Go, but the new meta and the addition of Rock Wrecker to its move pool allowed it to rise in this Cup.

Fury Cutter is the optimal Fast Move for energy generation. Then, with a combination of X-Scissor (used to bait enemy shields) and Rock Wrecker (strong and very cheap) as Charged Moves, Crustle will be able to take down plenty of the Cup’s biggest players like Kingdra, Cradily, and Forretress with no problem at all.

Wigglytuff

Wigglytuff in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Charm
  • Charged Move: Icy Wind and Swift
  • Type: Normal/Fairy
  • Strengths: Bug, Dark, Dragon, and Ghost
  • Weaknesses: Poison and Steel

With Azumarill banned from the Great League Remix, you might be looking for another Fairy-type that can use Charm to take its place. Wigglytuff is arguably the best substitute, with great bulk and the ability to take on popular opponents like Jellicent and Diggersby.

As we mentioned, you’ll want to use Charm as Wigglytuff’s Fast Move. When it comes to Charged Moves, opt for Swift to bait the opponent’s shields and get some great STAB damage, then add Icy Wind as a secondary Charged Move for extra coverage and to decrease the enemy’s Attack stat by 20%.

Diggersby

pokemon go diggersby
  • Fast Move: Quick Attack
  • Charged Moves: Fire Punch and Scorching Sands
  • Type: Normal/Ground
  • Resistances: Ghost, Electric, Rock, and Poison
  • Weaknesses: Fighting, Grass, Ice, and Water

Even though Diggersby is not a great attacker, it is an extremely bulky Pokemon with a unique and useful type combination.

This season features very strong Rock types, so Diggersby is a great choice to break them. Plus, having access to Fire Punch helps this enormous rabbit fight Grass and Ice types, which are two of its weaknesses.

As if it were not enough, Scorching Sands is a wonderful Ground-type move that deals very high damage for low energy.

Forretress

pokemon go forretress
  • Fast Move: Bug Bite
  • Charged Moves: Rock Tomb and Sand Tomb
  • Type: Bug/Steel
  • Resistances: Poison, Grass, Steel, Psychic, Normal, Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Bug
  • Weaknesses: Fire

Forretress is a solid choice for any team as it boasts numerous useful resistances, and it’s only weak to one type (Fire), which is not being played a lot during this season. Plus, it has a great Defense stat.

Bug-type moves are not good at all in Pokemon Go, but Bug Bite deals heavy damage and benefits from STAB.

For the Charged Move, use Rock Tomb to decrease your opponent’s Attack stat and bait their shields. Then you can finish them up with Earthquake, a solid Ground-type nuke that saves you from your only weakness. Another way to play this is to use Sand Tomb to keep decreasing your enemy’s stats – Defense by 20%.

Araquanid

Araquanid in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Bug Bite
  • Charged Moves: Water Pulse and Bubble Beam
  • Type: Water/Bug
  • Resistances: Fighting, Ground, Ice, Steel, and Water
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Flying, and Rock

Araquanid is a tanky creature that is brilliant for the Great League Remix. With resistances to both Water and Steel-types, it’s a huge threat to most of the meta.

A combination of Bug Bite as a Fast Move and Bubble Beam as a primary Charged Move to decrease your opponent’s Attack stat by 20% is the way to exploit this spider. Throw in the low-cost Water Pulse for extra (and cheap) Water-type damage.

Carbink

Carbink in Pokemon Go
  • Fast Move: Rock Throw
  • Charged Moves: Rock Slide and Moonblast
  • Type: Rock/Fairy
  • Resistances: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fire, Flying, and Normal
  • Weaknesses: Grass, Ground, Steel, and Water

Carbink can be hard to get in the game, but adding this dual Rock/Fairy-type creature to your Great League Remix team is a must in the current meta.

This Pokemon’s Fast Move by default is Rock Throw, as it deals heavy damage and benefits from STAB. When it comes to Charged Moves, go with Rock Slide for a well-rounded Rock-type attack and Moonblast for some huge (albeit expensive) Fairy-type damage. This entire moveset has STAB, which makes it extra powerful.
