Overwatch 2 Vendetta release date, hero test & lore

Vendetta hero in Overwatch 2

Blizzard have officially revealed Vendetta, the long-rumored sword character and the next hero coming to Overwatch 2 with the Season 20 update.

New characters have been arriving at a steady pace since Overwatch 2 launched, with a new one arriving every couple of seasons. The result is a huge roster, from hulking Tanks like Mauga to nimble healers like Juno.

Blizzard are far from done, though, and they’ve finally revealed Hero 45. Here’s everything we know about Vendetta so far.

Vendetta release date

Vendetta officially arrives in Overwatch 2 on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, as part of the Season 20 update.

Hero test

As has become tradition, a Vendetta hero test is running from November 26 to December 1. During this time, the character will be available in all Quick Play matches, although she won’t appear in Competitive.

This will allow the devs to gather valuable feedback and data so they can make adjustments to her kit before the full release.

Vendetta role

Vendetta will be a DPS hero, meaning that two out of the last three new characters have fallen into that role, after Freja in Season 16. This will take the total number of heroes in that category to 20.

Who is Vendetta?

Vendetta is an Italian gladiator who weilds a sword. After her father’s death, she became a fighter and quickly earned herself the nickname ‘La Lupa,’ which translates to She-Wolf of Retaliation.

In her reveal trailer, we see that she’s considered a villain of the arena, with the crowd constantly booing her during bouts. But she uses this to her advantage to dominate the Colesseo, to the point that her sword is later displayed there for all to see.
