Where Winds Meet adds mode where you literally play as a goose

Goose in Where Winds Meet

Where Winds Meet is marking the game’s first anniversary with one of its strangest additions yet, letting adventurers play as a goose.

On December 17, NetEase revealed that a new limited-time mode called The Phantom Thief Goose will be released in the Chinese version of the game. Instead of martial arts or weapons, players waddle into a standalone mode built around the Where Winds Meet’s iconic feathered fiends.

The Phantom Thief Goose plays out like a comedic stealth challenge, where players use “goose-specific actions” like honking, pecking, and most importantly, striking sheer terror into anybody that dares to lock eyes with you (and we thought Tian Ying was scary).

Where Winds Meet lets you play as a goose

According to the translated post, the mode opens with a short story in which your character falls asleep after planning a celebration, only to wake up transformed into a goose. From here, players need to steal items from unsuspecting villagers, avoid patrols, and escape without being caught.

While global players will likely have to wait until next year to experience the goose-themed mode, the community is already well aware of how deadly these geese can be. Since the game’s global rollout, players have quickly learned that geese in Where Winds Meet are anything but harmless, with many discovering the hard way that they behave more like roaming mini-bosses.

So, letting players become one during the game’s first anniversary feels befitting, especially since they’ve caused many an untimely death. The goose-themed anniversary event follows a major update that added Zelda Tears of the Kingdom-style vehicle building, which will be added to the global version later.
