Viral goldfish that beat Elden Ring’s “hardest” bosses dies aged 3

Goldfish and knight with a sword

Tortellini, the goldfish who became an internet sensation for playing Elden Ring has died at the age of three.

YouTuber and owner PointCrow revealed the news on November 27, telling fans that the fish had been fighting a serious systemic bacterial infection. He explained that Tortellini had been unwell for weeks and “took a turn for the worse,” despite ongoing care.

The streamer said he had done everything he could, noting that goldfish are incredibly fragile and that after three years it was his time to go. However, rather than focus on the fish’s passing, PointCrow used the announcement to celebrate Tortellini’s gaming achievements.

“I really want to highlight all the accomplishments Tortellini has done,” he wrote via a post on X. “Not only was he one of the only goldfish to play video games, but defeated some of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring, Malenia, and Consort Radahn, to name a few.”

Tortellini rose to fame through a custom motion-tracking rig that allowed his movements in the tank to register as inputs on stream. The result created one of gaming’s most unexpected storylines as viewers watched the goldfish slowly make progress in Elden Ring.

“He was there to make us all laugh and bewilder us on how a small fish could do so much. He’s lived a god damn good life,” the streamer continued.

“I miss him so much. I’m sure he’s swimming in the great tank in the sky right now as happy as he can be.”
