Arcanaut StudiosStar Wars: Fate of the Old Republic director Casey Hudson has promised that the game will arrive before 2030, despite recent rumors.
Of all the announcements at The Game Awards 2025, arguably the biggest surprise was Fate of the Old Republic. This spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic is set to deliver the same choice-driven story as the original classic, with the same director at the helm.
The game is still very early in development, and after the reveal, Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier suggested that a 2030 release date is “optimistic,” and even hinted it might be a PlayStation 7 game. However, Casey Hudson has assured fans that they won’t have to wait that long.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will arrive before 2030
“Don’t worry about the ‘not till 2030’ rumors. Game will be out before then,” he said in an X post. “I’m not getting any younger!”
Although he didn’t go as far as giving a timeframe for when it will arrive, this will be music to the ears of Star Wars fans. With the previously announced Knights of the Old Republic remake suffering a troubled development, they can rest assured that the series will return in the coming years.
That being said, it’s worth keeping in mind that Arcanaut Studios was only founded this year, so it’s still unlikely to arrive anytime soon. While Hudson may have debunked claims it’ll be a PlayStation 7 game, it’s more likely to drop on PlayStation 6 rather than the current generation of consoles.
Of course, though, this is all just speculation, and we’ll have to wait for the official release to be confirmed.
Very little is known about the project so far, but in the announcement blog, Casey Hudson called the game “equally ambitious” as KOTOR, and said that he wanted to create the “definitive Star Wars experience.”
