Silksong devs confirm major content update and new games beyond the Hollow Knight universe

Team Cherry confirmed they are already developing new Silksong content, hinting at bigger updates while refusing to commit to any timeline.

Hollow Knight Silksong launched into the kind of success most indies only daydream about. It sold millions within days and moved past the five million player mark almost instantly. It held a low-90s Metacritic average, pulled in huge user scores, and topped Steam with more than half a million concurrent players.

That momentum set the stage for the next big question: what comes after a debut this strong?

Team Cherry confirms new Silksong content is in development

Bloomberg spoke with Team Cherry’s Ari Gibson and William Pellen, who said they were already creating fresh content for Silksong.

The pair avoided timelines, but Gibson said they were “looking at what else can we do, what else can be brought to the experience and how that world can expand.” He added that the team was “pursuing the things that excite us,” noting that some additions could land at different scales, from lighter updates to expansions comparable to Godmaster.

They acknowledged the long cycle behind Silksong, with Gibson explaining they “didn’t plan seven years” but were still committed to a development approach that grows naturally. Pellen said they had begun “making new stuff and working on bits and pieces,” and promised more frequent communication since they now had concrete things to talk about. The long-teased Steel Assassin Sharpe was cited as something they “were excited to reintroduce,” along with other cut or repurposed ideas that never made launch.

The interview also touched on Team Cherry’s next steps beyond Silksong. Gibson said they planned to explore ideas outside the Hollow Knight universe, describing new worlds with big spaces, strange characters, and giant bosses. They stressed they weren’t tired of Hollow Knight, but wanted to stretch into new genres and themes before returning to Pharloom’s orbit again.
