ANANTA is an upcoming free-to-play anime open-world game that looks similar to GTA, and here’s everything we know about it so far.

First revealed at Gamescom 2023 as Project Mugen, ANANTA has come a long way since that first look. Two years later, the sci-fi open-world game has dropped a brand-new extended trailer, showcasing its gameplay, features, visuals, and more.

Since the new trailer’s release, the game has been turning heads all over social media. Many noted that ANANTA looks almost like GTA with Spiderman 2 thrown into the mix. Though the major difference that sets this title apart is its cell-shaded anime look.

As the hype of the game gets even bigger, you’re probably wondering when it’s coming out and what to expect. Here’s everything you need to know, from platforms and features to the latest details about ANANTA.

No, there is currently no clear release date for ANANTA.

However, the game is currently accepting pre-registrations, which likely means players will soon be able to delve into the free-to-play title. To pre-register, simply visit the game’s official site and select the pre-register option.

In an interview with GamesRadar, NetEase also confirmed plans for a global launch along with localized versions for other regions.

What platforms will ANANTA be on?

ANANTA will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Android, and iOS.

Currently, these are the only confirmed platforms. It’s unclear whether or not the game will be coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Is ANANTA a multiplayer game?

Ananta is an upcoming gacha that has been deemed an anime GTA.

According to a PCGamesN interview in 2023 with lead producer Ash Qi, ANANTA can be played with friends online even though it’s designed as a single-player experience. So, yes, it is a multiplayer game. But there’s a catch.

The multiplayer in question essentially allows you to play with up to four friends, not something like an MMORPG in which you can gather with a ton of other people.

Exactly how this will be played out in the game is still unknown, especially since the new trailer hasn’t showcased anything related to multiplayer just yet. However, we’ll be sure to keep this section updated once there’s more information.

ANANTA gameplay & features

Set in a chaotic world that “breaks all the rules,” you play as an Elite Agent of the A.C.D. (Anti-Chaos Directorate), tasked with venturing out and tackling a wide range of strange anomalies.

The trailer shows off plenty of action, with combat that goes far beyond simple hand-to-hand fighting. Players can wield various weapons, from a baseball bat to a full-on flamethrower. And if that’s not enough, you can even swing across the city or engage in gunfights while driving a vehicle.

Similar to Genshin Impact, the game offers a character switch mechanic. However, unlike Genshin, these characters are not obtained from a gacha system, meaning that they’ll all eventually be able to be unlocked as you progress instead of relying on luck.

The only things obtained from gacha are character customization items, such as outfits, cosmetics, and accessories.

In terms of gameplay, there seems to be plenty of things to do. Story and action aside, you can travel around the city, play mini-games, take selfies, interact with different objects, and hang out with other characters.

Trailers

ANANTA has released several trailers showcasing its gameplay. In the early days, the trailer still featured the name Project Mugen before rebranding to ANANTA. Fast forward to now, devs have just launched two new trailers, with the latest one being an extended one, giving more details about what the game is like.
