HytaleHytale has officially been revived. Hypixel has acquired full ownership of the long-running sandbox project after Riot Games canceled the project, marking a major turnaround for a game many players thought was gone for good.
Riot ended development of Hytale and began winding down Hypixel Studios on June 23, 2025, after 10 years of development effort was put into the Minecraft-style game.
Following the community’s reaction, Hypixel founders Simon Collins-Laflamme and Philippe Touchette made an offer to repurchase the project. The team says the deal was reached without knowing the full state of the codebase and that the project is now fully independent with no investors or publishers involved.
The announcement confirms that Hypixel has already rehired more than 30 former Hytale developers and committed personal funding for the next decade to rebuild the game around its original vision.

An early access release date will be announced sometime in November, and Hypixel says players should expect a raw and unfinished version of the game with bugs, unbalanced content, and frequent updates that may break systems.
Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme shared the news on X with a simple post. He said: “We did it. Hytale is saved. We have acquired Hytale from Riot Games.”
He quickly added context, though, revealing that there will be “no more waiting” and that fans will be able to play the game with “rough edges and all.”
“It won’t be perfect on day one. My hope is that together, we’ll shape it into something truly special,” he added.

Hytale now enters a multi-year early access cycle shaped heavily by community feedback. Hypixel says the goal is to build the long-promised experience piece by piece with a decade of funding already secured.
