Microsoft is pausing its planned Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price increases for some existing members in specific markets. The company confirmed that while new subscribers will see higher rates starting October 1, ongoing subscribers in select countries won’t be affected — at least for now.

In emails sent to customers on October 7, Microsoft said the increases “will only affect new purchases” and won’t impact “your current subscription for the market in which you reside, as long as you are on an auto-recurring plan.” However, users who cancel and rejoin will be charged the updated rate.

Not every country will see the price increase immediately

The delay applies to markets including Germany, Ireland, South Korea, Poland, and India. Microsoft confirmed to The Verge that the decision is tied to local requirements surrounding subscription pricing.

“Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged. Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements. We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries,” said Kari Perez, head of Xbox communications.

Existing customers in these regions will be notified at least 60 days before any future change. For example, Irish subscribers with auto-renew enabled will continue paying €17.99 a month instead of the new €26.99 rate until further notice.

Last week, Microsoft announced global price adjustments that were set to affect both new and existing subscribers by early November. Those plans now remain unchanged in the US and UK, while subscribers in the affected countries retain their current rates temporarily.
