Megabonk’s new Spooky Update is so hard players are threatening to quit

Megabonk

Megabonks Spooky Update has finally dropped, bringing Roberto, a new character, and tons of added bosses, a new map, and, of course, plenty of challenges. But fans aren’t happy with the heightened difficulty.

Taking inspiration from Vampire Survivors, Megabonk is by no means an easy game to succeed at. You need the right character, the best Weapons, Items, Tomes, and of course, the skill to go with it. Without all of that, completing the game’s challenges and unlocking new features can be pretty tough. However, thanks to the Spooky Update, that difficulty has ramped up, and players aren’t happy.

Megabonk fans call out games’ increased difficulty

Essentially, in order to unlock Roberto, you need to defeat an enemy called Big Bob and Spooky Steve. These are hard enough to fight in their own right. Then you need to unlock various items, which require you to complete levels in under 16 seconds.

With this in mind, tons of fans have been taking to social media to share their frustration. “These new challenges aren’t fun, and I don’t like the game going in this direction,” wrote one player, who went on to explain that: “These new challenges are so beyond my skill level that I’ll never reasonably unlock them and I don’t even want to try.”

They even threatened to boycott the game, adding, “And if Megabonk keeps going in this hardcore direction, I won’t be a continuing player.”

Many other players agreed with the challenges, echoing the same sentiment that they’re not worth completing, regardless of the powerful nature of the items: “Absolutely agree, the pot unlock in particular is massive bulls**t and outright a***ole design. Not only do you need to be super skilled to collect everything in time, but you also need lots of RNG and resets, and that doesn’t feel either fun or fair.”

Others took to lamenting about the tricky bosses, commenting, “Spooky Steve is the most boring s**t I’ve seen in a while. I’d rather it be a secret boss fight that you can unlock in some way throughout your actions in the new level instead of this dumb**s infinite health, one-shot k/o mob in a super tight area.”

Despite this, many quite like the challenges, explaining that they “think the challenge is fun, I think failing it is also fun, but it should be a lot more forgiving for the times.” Another echoed the sentiment: “I like the challenges being challenging. It’s okay for the entire player base to not be able to easily get 100% achievements… The update has been out for like 48 hours, not everyone should have everything completed that fast.”

It seems that despite the update releasing with plenty of new items and features, the challenge is causing fans plenty of trouble, whether they enjoy it or not.
