Insomniac GamesInsomniac Games finally showed Marvel’s Wolverine again during the September 24 State of Play, the first real look in years.
The new trailer pulled no punches: claws tearing, blood flying, and a tone that feels darker and more grounded than anything we’ve seen from their Spider-Man series.
Here’s everything we know about Logan’s long-awaited return on PS5.
Release window
Marvel’s Wolverine will release in Fall 2026. The news came during the September 24, 2025 State of Play showcase, alongside the reveal of its brutal gameplay trailer.
Insomniac GamesThe game will launch exclusively on PS5, with no confirmation yet of a PC port or other platforms to follow.
Story details
The 2021 footage set the tone: Logan in the aftermath of a bar fight, claws dripping, violence raw and unflinching. Longtime fans recognized hints of The Princess Bar in Madripoor, a classic Marvel location tied to Wolverine’s darker chapters.
Insomniac GamesThe 2025 trailer, on the other hand, showed far more action, parkour, and the reveal of a fan-favorite X-Men character: Mystique.
Details remain scarce, but Insomniac has confirmed this will be a standalone story. While it may exist in the same universe as the studio’s Spider-Man games, it won’t be a crossover title.
Instead, expect a focused narrative about Logan’s struggle with his past, his rage, and the lengths he’ll go to for survival.
Gameplay
We still haven’t seen raw gameplay, but Insomniac’s pedigree gives us a clear sense of what to expect:
Related
- Visceral combat: Brutal claw strikes, counterattacks, and close-quarters ferocity instead of gadget-heavy combat.
- Gritty environments: Footage suggests more grounded, atmospheric settings compared to Spider-Man’s bright cityscapes. We saw Logan riding a motorcycle as well.
- Standalone tone: This won’t be a lighthearted romp. Insomniac is leaning into Wolverine’s mature, violent side.
During the showcase, Sony also confirmed that more gameplay and story details will arrive in Spring 2026, setting the stage for a full deep dive before launch.
Development updates
Originally announced in 2021, the game’s leadership shifted in 2024, with Marcus Smith and Mike Daly taking over as creative leads.
In 2023, internal leaks from a ransomware attack spilled early concepts and story drafts, though Insomniac made clear those materials didn’t represent the final game.
The September 2025 trailer marks the first official look since that original reveal, proving the project is now deep into production.
