Team CherryDespite feeling like a myth for years, the highly anticipated Hollow Knight Silksong is finally playable, and it’s officially reached a huge milestone just three months after release.
The original Hollow Knight was released back in 2017 and slowly grew into one of the most beloved indie titles of the decade. Built by a small team, it earned its reputation through tight combat, striking art, and a deeply interconnected world. Naturally, the team began working on a DLC.
Silksong turned out to be an entire game, with new locations, enemies, mechanics, and of course, a new main character. This decision led to one of the longest and most talked-about waits in gaming history until it was released and (genuinely) broke the internet, reaching a massive sales milestone.
Hollow Knight Silksong hits a huge sales record
Revealed by Team Cherry in a recent blog post announcing an upcoming free DLC, Hollow Knight Silksong has officially sold more than seven million copies in just three months, and that number does not include players on Xbox Game Pass, which is predicted to be millions more.
Team CherryIn the blog post, Team Cherry addressed the scale of the launch directly. “We wanted to say a huge thank you to all the players who’ve braved Silksong’s distant and dangerous lands. That’s over seven million of you who’ve purchased the game, alongside millions more playing on Xbox Game Pass!”
They also acknowledged just how unexpected that response was. “It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!).”

The comparison to the first game puts the achievement into perspective. Hollow Knight has sold around 15 million copies in its eight-year lifespan, showing just how quickly Silksong has surged.
