Xbox fans have spent years begging Microsoft to release their own branded handheld, and on June 8, 2025, it was finally revealed during the Xbox Showcase.
The Seattle-based gaming company has partnered with Asus to bring fans the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, new versions of the company’s existing handhelds. Here’s everything we know about the new Xbox gaming device, including specs, its release date, and more.
Release date
The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds will release on October 16, 2025.
ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X price
ASUS and Microsoft finally revealed the pricing for their Xbox handhelds on Thursday, September 25. The ROG Xbox Ally is priced at $599 in the US, while the ROG Xbox Ally X costs $999. Here’s its cost elsewhere around the globe:
- Canada – $799 (Ally) and $1299 (Ally X)
- Europe – €599 (Ally) and €899 (Ally X)
- United Kingdom – £499 (Ally) and £799 (Ally X)
- Australia – $799 (Ally) and $1599 (Ally X)
US customers will be able to preorder the Ally X from Best Buy, Asus, and Microsoft. The ROG Xbox Ally will also be available at Amazon, Walmart, and Ant Online as well.
Within just hours of the preorders launching, the official Xbox store sold out of Ally X devices worldwide.

On top of running Windows 11, Microsoft has revealed a new Xbox software experience that will launch with the ROG Xbox Ally devices.

We’ve already seen updates to the Xbox PC app that will help shape this new handheld experience, as Xbox Insiders can now access games from Steam, Battle.net, and more from inside the app.
Instead of loading straight into the Windows desktop, it will instead open into a new version of the Xbox app that will handle almost everything you’ll need to do on the handheld, just like how Valve’s Steam Deck opens straight into Steam.
