McDonald’s finally brings back Monopoly after nearly a decade

McDonald’s is officially bringing back its Monopoly promotion to the United States this October after years of not doing it.

The fast food chain confirmed the long-awaited return on social media with a post reading: “M0N0pOLY OCTOBER!!! 1-844-GT-URBAG…. YOU MIGHT WANNA DOWNLOAD MCD APP.”

In a statement to Dexerto, McDonald’s said: “The thrill of the ‘peel’ is back by fan demand! The Monopoly Game at McDonald’s will ‘pass GO’ and make its highly anticipated return to participating U.S. restaurants in October 2025. We can’t wait to share more details on when and how to play as we get closer to game time.”

On Monday, September 29, McDonald’s revealed that its promotion will return on October 6, 2025, and will make use of its mobile app for extra rewards.

How to Play McDonald’s Monopoly 2025

This year, customers will have to register to play the game through the McDonald’s mobile app. From there, you can receive physical game pieces when you order from the Monopoly menu on the app or use your rewards code when ordering in person.

Here’s how to play McDonald’s Monopoly:

REGISTER: Download the app, opt in to Rewards and register for the Game. Pre-register between Sept. 29 and Oct. 5 and get 500 bonus MyMcDonald’s Rewards points.
ORDER YOUR FAVES: Starting Oct. 6, registered players can order select menu items and get a game piece to play. Some items get you a physical piece, while others get you a digital piece right on your phone when you order in the app or use your Reward code.
PEEL FOR PRIZES OR PROPERTIES: There are two ways to get in on the fun this time around!
- Physical game pieces: Peel from packaging, then scan in the app to reveal your prize or collect a digital property piece.
- Digital game pieces: When you earn a digital game piece, you can “peel” directly in the app to reveal if you’re an instant winner or to collect your digital property piece.
In both cases, be sure to play the bonus game in the app for a second chance to win through Nov. 2.

Customers who choose to participate will have a chance to win free food and other “epic prizes” such as a $50,000 vacation, $10,000 shopping spree, and more.

The Monopoly Game has been one of McDonald’s most recognizable promotions, first introduced in 1987. Customers collect game pieces from menu items for chances to win prizes, from free food to larger cash rewards.

While it has regularly appeared in markets around the world, U.S. fans have waited years for its return. This October marks the first time the Monopoly promotion will be available at participating restaurants across the country since around 2018.
