DoorDash DoorDash has revealed a new AI-powered social app aimed at helping users discover nearby restaurants without scrolling through reviews or social media feeds.
The app, called Zesty, is launching as a pilot in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York. It marks DoorDash’s latest move beyond food delivery and into local discovery and social networking.
How DoorDash’s Zesty app works
Zesty requires users to sign in with their DoorDash account and centers around an AI chatbot that delivers personalized restaurant recommendations. Users can type in natural language prompts to describe exactly what they are looking for, or select from suggested prompts inside the app.
In an Instagram promo post, DoorDash showed example prompts such as “A low-key dinner in Williamsburg that’s actually good for introverts,” alongside suggestions like “Brunch spots good for groups” and “Romantic dinner with a vintage feel.”
According to DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang, the app pulls information from multiple sources across the web to generate recommendations. In a post on X, Fang said Zesty aggregates data from DoorDash, Google Maps, TikTok, and other platforms to curate results.
Beyond AI-powered search, Zesty also includes social features. Users can save restaurants, share recommendations, view and post photos, leave comments, discover content from others, and follow other users, similar to a traditional social network focused entirely on food and local spots.
A DoorDash spokesperson confirmed details about the pilot to TechCrunch, saying, “At DoorDash, we’re always looking for new ways to help people connect with the best of their communities.
“We’re piloting an app called Zesty to make it easier to discover great nearby restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and more through personalized search and social sharing. We’re excited to learn from early testers as we keep shaping what local discovery can look like.”
