Bethesda / AmazonFollowing the success of the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime, Todd Howard has confirmed that the show will have an impact on what we see in Fallout 5.
It’s no secret that Fallout 5 will arrive sooner or later, but with Bethesda’s main focus being on The Elder Scrolls 6, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see it anytime soon. That being said, thanks to the Prime series starring Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, the franchise is probably bigger than ever, despite the last game being Fallout 76 in 2018.
But fans have been wondering if, when the next mainline game finally arrives, the events of the show will be referenced in any way. Well, Bethesda Studio Head Todd Howard has revealed the game won’t be able to completely ignore the Amazon Prime adaptation.
Fallout 5 will ‘exist in same world’ as Amazon show
Speaking in an interview with BBC, Howard was asked directly whether the show would have an impact on the next game.
“In short, yes,” he replied. “Fallout 5 will be existing in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening. We are taking that into account.”
Obsidian StudiosNow, there are two ways you could interpret this answer, depending on how full your glass is.
The more pessimistic route is that the simple fact that the show exists, is successful, and has already depicted certain characters and locations will be taken into account during development. After all, Fallout 5 needs to cover new ground.
On the other hand, this could be a hint that Lucy’s story or the other plotlines shown in the series could be referenced in the game. It even opens the door for a cameo from The Goul if the devs wanted to.

This wouldn’t be a huge surprise, given that it’s already been confirmed that the events of the TV show are canon to the main Fallout timeline. Even though the main plot of the show takes place 15 years after New Vegas in 2296, making it the latest entry chronologically, it also sheds plenty of light on earlier events, including before the bombs dropped.
So, even though we still don’t know which year Fallout 5 will take place in, there’s plenty of scope for the show to tie in nicely to the lore established in the first and second seasons of the TV series.
