Police in Canada were called after anti-Santa signs were spotted at a Christmas parade, with some residents trying to be Grinches about the holiday season.

As soon as the calendar hits December, people across the world start gearing up for Christmas. That means decorations and trees are put up, Christmas music becomes the go-to on the radio, and everyone starts acting a little bit more festive.

However, there are plenty of folks out there who want to bring things down a notch. They want to try and ruin the magic of Christmas, telling everyone else that, no, in fact, Santa Claus does not fly around the world in a sleigh delivering presents.

That has again been the case in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, as police were called to the town’s annual Christmas parade after some residents put up signs about Santa being “fake.”

“Santa is fake” signs removed after complaints to police

According to CBC News, Brantford Police were hit with complaints over the phone, online messages, and in-person reports from upset residents about the signs.

“An officer spoke with the individual responsible and the signs have since been removed,” Robin Matthews-Osmond, corporate communications manager for the Brantford Police Service, told CBC News.

“While it isn’t illegal to be a ‘Grinch,’ we do encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of the season and help foster a positive, welcoming community, especially during events like the Santa Claus Parade.”

The signs have continued to spark outrage online, with many questioning why someone would try and ruin things for those who believe in Santa Claus.

“People dont even let kids have any fun anymore these days,” one said. “Must have been on the naughty list as a kid,” another added.
