How to unlock Cogsworth & Lumiere in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Two new characters have arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley, this time complementing an already present realm. However, unlocking Cogsworth and Lumiere in the new update isn’t easy, even if they only want you to be their guest.

You may have wondered how Belle and Beast’s castle was so spotless the last time you visited (aside from The Forgetting playing its part, of course). Well, now we finally know, as the beloved cursed servants have officially been added to Disney Dreamlight Valley.

However, despite their love for hosting guests, actually unlocking these characters and inviting them into your Valley isn’t easy. So, here’s exactly how to do it.

How to unlock Cogsworth and Lumiere

Open the Beauty and the Beast Realm & Unlock Belle and Beast

Before you can access Cogsworth and Lumiere’s questlines, you’ll need to unlock the Beauty and the Beast Realm and complete its quests.

To do so, follow our guide for unlocking Belle and The Beast, as you’ll need these to get the next two characters.

The Haunting of the Beast’s Castle

To activate the first quest, read a letter in your mailbox from Beast, who’s concerned about his friends and asks you to head back into the Realm and check up on them.

Naturally, that’s exactly what you should do. Head to the third floor of the Dreamlight Castle and enter the Beauty and the Beast Realm.

Once inside, head straight down the corridor and follow the path until you see Lumiere in the library. Speak to him and he’ll ask you to brighten the place up.

Craft Fireplace Fuel

To do this, you need to light the Fireplace. Head into the hidden passage just to the right of Lumiere, and you’ll see a box against the wall you came in through. Inside, there are three different ingredients.

Then, head to the Fireplace, and put in three ‘Canoli’ to make the Fireplace Fuel. With that, head back to Lumiere, give him the items, and he’ll explain that something odd is happening to the castle.

Catch the painting

There’s a flying painting, which you, of course, need to catch. Luckily, the painting is in the room you’re in, so just run after it and you’ll catch it in no time.

Once you do, head back to the main corridor where you entered the castle. To the left of you is a grand piano. When you get to this, you’ll see swirling patterns indicating you put the painting here. Place it in, and pick up the rewards.

With that done, speak to Lumiere, who will explain that he thinks there’s a ghost about the castle. It’s here where you’re asked to make a choice. We chose to believe in ghosts, but it seems there could be some differences depending on your answer.

Visit the garden

With that, you’ll be instructed to head to the garden. Once there, speak to Lumiere and begin cleaning up around the maze.

You want to get to the middle as soon as you can, as Cogsworth is waiting for you. When you do, speak to him and meet up with the two shortly after. Plenty more ghost talk will continue, and you’ll have completed this quest.

A Growing Mystery

Find the Rose Seeds

To start the next quest, speak to Cogsworth, who will ask you to replant the roses. But first, you need to find the seeds.

The seeds are found in the Beast’s room. Head back to where you originally came into the realm, and just before that, you’ll see his room, tucked by some Lion statues.

In a box, on the right-hand side of the room, you’ll find the four Rose Seeds. Once you do, head back to the Garden and plant them in the middle of the maze.

Craft Rose Fertilizer

Oddly enough, the Roses aren’t growing. So, speak to Cogsworth again and craft some Rose Fertilizer using the following ingredients:

• 8 Castle Softwood: Found in the maze
• 3 Rich Soil: Dig dirt in the Valley
• 3 Castle Stone: Found by breaking rocks in the maze

Dexerto

Head to the nearest crafting table (there’s one in the garden) and craft Rose Fertilizer. When you’ve done that, go into your inventory and put it on your watering can. Then, go back to the middle of the maze and water the bushes. Roses will appear.

Place the roses in vases

Lastly, just head back to the piano room near the start of the realm and place three roses in the empty white vases surrounding the room. Despite having six, you only need to place three.

This will drop a key and another page. Speak to the two, and they’ll reveal that you need to find one more key. With that, the quest is over.

During the dialogue, you’re asked to make another decision, we chose: “It’s definitely a ghost! Things are just too strange to explain otherwise.”

Belle, Book, and Candle

Sort the decor

Speak to Lumiere, who explains that he’s going to try to find the book the pages you’ve been finding belong to. In the meantime, he asks you to help keep the Castle spotless by reorganizing some of the decor.

You need to place the following items in their respective places, marked by the familiar swirls we saw with the painting:

• Standing Candelabra: Near the piano where you speak to Lumiere
• Lion Statue: Upstairs outside Beast’s bedroom
• Globe: In the Library

When that’s complete, pick up the key and the page and head back to Lumiere by the piano. He’ll explain that he’s had no luck finding the book, but won’t go into the West Wing, leaving you to explore the region.

Find and fix the book

The West Wing is located where Beast’s bedroom is, so head upstairs where you placed the Lion Statue and look for the pile of books.

Interact with this and you’ll have the book. Next, show this to Lumiere, and he’ll explain that it’s in terrible condition. Naturally, the only one who’s capable of this is Belle.

So, go back to the Valley and find Belle in her castle. You’ll need to speak to both Beast and Belle, but shortly after, she’ll give you some glue to fix the book.

With that, head to the nearest crafting table and craft the Repaired Domestic Manual. Then, head back to the realm, put the book on the pedestal in front of you, and grab the final key.

Open the box and you’ll see an invitation and a Masquerade Mask. Equip this. Then, speak to Lumiere, who will explain that this clearly means they need to host a Masquerade ball.

A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping

Find the Fine Cutlery

It’s time for the Masquerade ball. Well, it’s time to plan and prepare at least. Speak to Cogsworth, who will ask you to go to the cellar and find the Fine Cutlery.

Head to the garden and go to the cellar, the doors just to the left and below the ones you use to enter. Pick them up and place them on the table near the Piano in the main hall.

Cook a Charcuterie Board

Then, speak to Lumiere, who will ask you to prepare a Charcuterie Board. For that, you’ll need to find the following ingredients scattered around the castle:

• Oyster: In the hidden passage in a box to the back.
• Creepy Crawly Crab: In the hidden passage in a box to the back.
• Chilling Cucumber: On the table in the Library
• Booyere Cheese: By the quill and ink in the Library
• Screamed Butter: On the table by the sofa in the library

With them, head to the nearest cooking pot, which is in the secret passage, and make the Charcuterie Board. Place this with the Fine Cutlery.

Make Rose Garlands

Lastly, you’ll need to craft some Rose Garlands. To do this, you need the following ingredients:

• Castle Softwood: Found by removing Night Thorns in the Garden
• Rainbow Rose Bouquet: Should already have them from the previous quest
• Castle Detritus: Found in a bag by the garden crafting table

With them, head to the crafting table and make the Rose Garlands. Then, go back to the piano room, and place the Garland in the hall.

Then, it’s time to enjoy the ball. If you haven’t already, put the mask on and take a picture to capture the moment. Lumiere and Cogsworth will reminisce on the successful ball and speak to you about joining the Valley.

Welcome Lumiere and Cogsworth to the Valley

All that’s left to do is invite them to the Valley. You’ll need to speak with each of them, then with Bell and Beast. Once you’ve done that, you’ll have two new characters in the Valley.

All Cogsworth Friendship quests

Level 2 Friendship Quest: Running Like Clockwork

Cogsworth is nothing if not particular, and his friendship quest Running Like Clockwork is exactly that: a steady chain of small but oddly fussy tasks.

Craft and place 6 Harmonious Screens

You’ll kick things off by making 6 Harmonious Screens and setting them up around Vanellope’s house. The recipe calls for:

• 25 Hardwood: Found near trees in the Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Frosted Heights, and Forgotten Lands.
• 10 Green Passion Lilies: These spawn in Frosted Heights. They’re fairly common once you do a sweep of the biome.

Craft the screens, place them by Vanellope’s house, and then chat with Cogsworth and Vanellope, who’ll will immediately want them removed.

Find Broken Pieces of a Tropical Lifeguard Chair

Next, Moana gets involved. You’ll need to search Dazzle Beach’s sand and water for shiny pieces of a Tropical Lifeguard Chair. Use:

• Shovel on glittering ground spots.
• Fishing rod on golden ripples.

The pieces are random, but they all spawn somewhere along Dazzle Beach. Collect all six, head to a crafting station, and put the chair together. Place it back on the beach, then speak with Moana again.

Catch Cogsworth’s Gears

Stitch shows up next, and suddenly, the Valley has flying parts to worry about. Cogsworth’s Gears are loose and drifting across the map. You’ll find them circling around in:

• Forest of Valor
• Dazzle Beach
• Plaza

There’s no fixed path, so you’ll have to chase them down in each zone until you gather them all.

Once the gears are collected, return to Cogsworth. Hand over the parts, and he’ll finally be satisfied, ticking this quest off your list.

Level 4 Friendship Quest: On Her Majesty’s Festive Service

Once you reach level four with Cogsworth, you’ll need to speak to him and begin On Her Majesty’s Festive Service. He’ll explain that he’s feeling a little useless now that he can’t be of service to Beast. So, you need to help him.

Prepare for the Winter Carnival

One prime example is Anna. Head over and speak to her to introduce the two of them. He’ll ask what he can do for her as an assistant, but she won’t have much. Olaf, however, will ask for help making the Winter Carnival and will ask you to place the Winter Carnival Banners: Near Scrooge’s Store, in the Glade of Trust, on Dazzle Beach, and in the Sunlit Plateau.

Then, he’ll ask for the following materials:

• 125 Snowballs: Break Ice Spikes in the Frosted Heights.
• 10 Dry Wood: Found in the Sunlit Plateau.
• 10 Crystal: Found mining rock nodes in the Forgotten Lands.

With all the ingredients, head to a crafting table and craft an Icy Armchair and Snow Hut, and decorate the Frosted Heights with the items.

Sort out Hot Cocoa

Speak to Cogsworth who will wonder where the Hot Cocoa is. So check in with Olaf in Chez Remy. He’ll explain that it’s not going well, and he’s used the wrong ingredients.

While Cogsworth cleans up, serve three customers in Chez Remy. When you have, speak to Cogsworth and prepare for the Carnival by doing the following things:

• Place the Frozen Hot Cocoa Counter in the Frosted Heights

You can put on warm clothes like coats, gloves, or hats, and you can also ask Olaf about some trivia. These are optional.

Enjoy the Carnival

Place the Counter, and the Carnival will begin. Simply speak to Anna and Olaf, who will thank you but insist that she doesn’t need Cogsworth’s help, asking him to try and take a break. With that, the quest will be complete.

All Lumiere Friendship quests

Level 2 Friendship Quest: At Your Service

This one kicks off with Remy, but before long it turns into Lumiere’s theatrical idea of service, which mostly means you running around tidying up everyone’s mess.

Find French Bread, Spices, and Recipe Books

Remy will ask you to fetch items hidden around the Beauty and the Beast realm.

• French Bread (1): In the backroom, open the crate.
• French Spices (3): All in the garden maze:
  • One by a flowery garden trellis.
  • One by a large tree with a trellis and a torn page.
  • One by another trellis with a torn page, opposite the second spot.
• French Recipe Book (3): All in the library:
  • On the ground near a window.
  • On the ground next to an empty table near the entrance.
  • On the ground by the stairs.

Bring everything back to Remy. Naturally, Lumiere has other ideas. Inside the restaurant, clear six broken dishes scattered across the floor. Simple enough: just interact with them until the room is spotless.

Craft a Romantic Arch

Head to Tiana’s palace and talk with Lumiere. He’ll rope you into setting up a romantic scene and cooking a few French classics.

To craft the Romantic Arch, you’ll need the following materials.

• Purple Hydrangea (3): spawns on Dazzle Beach.
• Green Rising Penstemon (6): grows in the Plaza.
• Softwood (25): common around Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, and Forest of Valor.
• Stone (40): mined from any rock nodes.

Cook French recipes

To prepare Crepes, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• Wheat: Buy seeds at Goofy’s Stall in Peaceful Meadow and farm.
• Egg: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.
• Milk: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.
• Vanilla: Foraged in the Sunlit Plateau biome.

To prepare Pastry Cream & Fruits, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• Any fruit (3): Harvest from fruit trees and bushes across any biome (apples in Plaza, bananas on Dazzle Beach, raspberries in Peaceful Meadow, etc.).
• Milk: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.
• Sugarcane: Buy seeds or stalks at Goofy’s Stall on Dazzle Beach.

To prepare Soufflé, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• Cheese: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.
• Egg: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.
• Milk: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.
• Butter: Purchase from Remy’s Pantry.

Cook all three at a stove, then deliver them to Tiana’s Palace, where once again, you’re left cleaning:

• Pick up broken dishes.
• Collect floating cutlery.
• Catch the flying items moving around the room.

After restoring order (and basically running front-of-house single-handedly), speak with Lumiere. The quest wraps up here.

Level 4 Friendship Quest: Here, There, and Everywhere

After witnessing some rather odd happenings, Lumiere has you exploring just why the cutlery and plates seem to be haunted.

Speak to Minnie and The Beast & look for clues

To gather more information, you’ll need to speak to Beast and Minnie, both of whom explain that this whole thing is very odd and that it’s not something they recognize.

So, you’ll need to look for more clues. These are found scattered around Remy’s and Tiana’s restaurants and aren’t too tricky to find. Once you have, go back and offer the clues to Lumiere, who will explain that the haunting always starts in the kitchen, and that it’s followed by chirping noises and flying objects.

Gather Spell Materials

Naturally, with the supernatural, you need to speak to Jack Skellington. Speak to him and he’ll ask you to make a potion using the following ingredients:

• 1 Pumpkin Soup: 1 Milk, 1 Vegetable, 1 Ginger, 1 Pumpkin
• 2 Shiny Ruby: Found in Vitalys Mines
• 2 Shiny Sapphire: Found in Vitalys Mines
• 10 Night Shard: 1 Onyx for three Night Shards in the Crafting Table.
• 10 Purified Night Shard: 10 Night Shards & 2 Dream Shards in the Crafting Table.

With that, head back to Tiana’s Palace and offer Jack the materials. He’ll thank you and ask you to provide some eyewear that he can enchant. You’ll offer your Masquerade Mask.

He’ll enchant it and allow you to see more traces of the Here and There. So, put the mask on, and check around for more clues.

Look for more codes

Once you do, you’ll see various footprints in Tiana’s Palace. Interact with these and follow them into the kitchen. Something will escape, so follow it out of the building and speak to Lumiere. This will end this quest.
