Destiny 3 and a form of “Classic” Destiny 2 experience are reportedly in the early stages of development at Bungie, according to leakers.

The claim, originally made by a user known as Starsiza, stated that a sequel to the second game in the series was “in the works,” with something “along the lines of a Classic D2” also being greenlit.

The information, while light, was later corroborated by reputable leaker and dataminer Colony Deaks, who has previously provided accurate leaks relating to Destiny 2 and Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon.

Leaker plans to “share more info” soon

“Yes, Destiny 3 is in extremely early development,” Deaks said in their post on X, adding, “Some of you may have seen a tweet early this afternoon that mentioned that.”

“We have been sitting on the info for a few weeks now and wanted to wait to talk about this, seeing as it is in such an early state,” they continued, saying they planned to “share more info in the coming months.”

While they corroborated claims Destiny 3 was in development, Deaks made no mention of the supposed Classic Destiny 2 mentioned by the other leaker. When asked by another user to comment on the possibility of a classic version of the second game, Deaks replied:

“Talking over plans for when to share all the info we have regarding that. Because we have A LOT there and want to make sure it’s all good.”

As for when the supposed third game would see the light of day, Deaks claimed it was a “around a 5-year goal” for Bungie, with “full development picking up after D2 finishes.”

Officially, Destiny 2 has at least another year of planned content to come after Renegades, the final DLC of 2025, releases on December 2. The expansion introduces numerous weapons and gear based on Star Wars.

Should the leaks that Destiny 3 is now being worked on prove true, it would mark a stark change of direction for Bungie. In 2024, following the release of The Final Shape, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said that Destiny 3 had “never been in development, per people familiar.”

Bungie has never ruled out the possibility of Destiny 3 happening, nor has it ever confirmed that a sequel was being worked on.

The studio’s next game, originally scheduled for release in 2025 but delayed, is now aiming for a 2026 launch.
