Battlefield 6 devs respond after players hit with missing content bug

Some players who preloaded Battlefield 6 were unable to play for hours after launch, discovering that the game refused to open, stating they didn’t own content they had already purchased.

Publisher EA acknowledged the issue on October 10, confirming that a licensing error tied to its EA app left some players locked out entirely, while others were hit with “missing content” pop-ups for DLC and base game files they already owned.

EA confirms compensation after widespread lockout

Per a statement shared through the official Battlefield X/Twitter page, devs intend to issue in-game compensation to affected users now that a fix has been deployed.

The compensation package includes bonus XP boosters and full access to a seasonal Battle Pass, offered as an apology to those impacted by the launch-day failure.

Anyone affected who already purchased the Battle Pass will instead get free access to Season 2’s.

According to EA, the issue stemmed from its ownership verification system incorrectly flagging licenses as invalid. A patch has since been rolled out across platforms, and restarting the game should resolve the problem for most players.

Battlefield 6 landed to rave reviews and, wholly unsurprisingly, has been suffering from success during its honeymoon period. In addition to the bug outlined above, players encountered enormous login queues upon booting the game. A move that the devs considered necessary to ensure things remained “smooth and stable for everyone.”
